So I am finaly moving onto the final copy of my band's first single, and am turning the rough draft of the song into a final copy by doing all of the parts over to perfection with the metronome. I was told to lay down the drum tracks down first before anything else, so I recorded the intro drums with the metronome set on the beat I needed which is with the tempo at 165.00
Now the intro is a different beat than the 1st verse, so when I went to go record the 1st verse and changed the tempo to 135.00 it changes the intro drums to that beat as well. I am not sure on how to change the tempo without ruining a previous beat that was recorded. Any help would be appreciated, I am fairly new to the whole producer role. Thanks a lot.

If you go into Tempo View (Alt-Shift-F5) you can draw in tempo changes wherever you like, just as you can with automation in Track view.

At the beginning of the first verse, draw in a dot (node) at the tempo you want and Sonar will immediately adjust itself as the piece plays.

EASY PEEZY splution!!!

I do this all the time, and have learned to take a sec when I am inserting tempo changes.

SO here is the order of things that you did:

1.  Set song tempo to 165
2.  Recorded a BRILLIANT intro at that tempo
3.  Peer pressure made you need to change tempo for the verse to 135
4.  You clicked on the appropriate measure to insert the tempo change at the start of the verse
5.  You inserted the tempo change to 135.
6.  You missed noticing 2 tiny little radio buttons at the bottom of the Insert Tempo Change dialog box.

The Sonar default behavior when doing an insert tempo change it to have the first of those 2 radio buttons at the bottom of the Insert Tempo Change dialog box selected.  That first of the 2 radio buttons tells Sonar you want it to 'Change the Most Recent Tempo', which for your project was the ORIGINAL tempo change you did at the beginning when you set it to 165 for the intro.

What you NEEDED to do was to set that 2nd radio button, which tells Sonar that you want it 'Insert a NEW Tempo' instead, leaving the intro's tempo set to 165.

I have FINALLY convinced my brain to pause for a moment when doing tempo changes, so that I can look at which way I want the tempo change inserted.

Since you HAVE done the tempo change the way you did, here is how you can fix it to be how you want it:

1.  Go back to the start of the song.
2.  Insert a Tempo Change - setting it to 165, ALSO making sure to tell it to INSERT A NEW TEMPO CHANGE.

This way, your VERSE tempo change, which happens later, does not get affected - you will just be inserting a new tempo at the beginning to change it to 165, and when Sonar encounters the next tempo change, at the start of the verse, it will process THAT one, changing the tempo THERE to 135, so the singer can blurt out the words - hee hee - I LOVE picking on vocalists.

Any FUTURE tempo changes you do will now include looking at the 2 radio buttons at the bottom to figure out which way you want to go.
