  • Filter out Midi-Controller (i. e. breath control)

Hello! I use a Midi-Breath controller to control synths in Sonar X1 Studio. The controller sends Expression (CC11), Aftertouch, Breath Control (CC02) and Velocity data at a time. Is it possible to filter out some commands IN REALTIME? Some synths only work with aftertouch and does not function by using breath control and the other CCs mentioned above. Is there a possibility to filter them out in an easy way? That should not be that complicated, but I did not find a solution yet. A plugin would – probably – be the easiest way, but I did not find one. Does Sonar X1 offer own possibilities? I found the „midi event filter“, but I do not really know how to use it and think, it does not work realtime. If you could help me, that would be fine.

Windplayer - VERY kewl concept, using a wind controller.

Did the above posted reply help you with your situation?

@arachnaut:  Wow, you keep coming up with these CW applets that I haven't seen in so long.  I'd forgotten they were there!  Does this work in real time?  I looked around and could only find very basic record filtering in Preferences.  Nothing else that looked like real time filtering.  When I needed something like that, I had to use external devices, like the filtering in my MOTU Midi Express XT midi interface or boxes like the MIDI Solutions Event Processor.

@windplayer: Midi Solutions also makes something called the MIDI Solutions Breath Controller Interface Box which might be perfect for you.

Checking around, there seem to be Google entries for Midi filtering software, but what I saw looked like homebrew solutions and I couldn't tell if they were real time or not.

Actually, it's because of the X2 upgrade - I wanted to test each FX and VST so I dug into each on a bit, just to be more familiar.

This should work in real-time.

Another tool that can do lots of MIDI transformations is MIDI-OX - it's free and should be in everyone's toolbox.

EDIT:

I would be remiss if I didn't include Loopbe:

There is a free version, but it doesn't work as well as the pay-for version.

Yes, I have MIDI-OX.  Forgot about that, as it's not installed on my Win7 machine yet.  I haven't heard of Loopbe, though.

There's also SQ Midi Tools by Sound Quest that's not free, but it's useful.

So @windplayer has lots of 3rd-party options.

There are plugins which could solve my problem, but I have Win 7, 64bit edition. The PizMidi offers some plugins like midiNotchFilter or midi16CCRouter which are simple and seemed to be able to work. But unfortunately, I got no reaction at my 64-bit-system. I need a CC-filter or -router, but I was not able to find a good and simple one, yet.

I forgot to port Midi Ox over to my new machine too!  LOVE that one :)

Thanks,

Thanks for your screenshot, but it does not work, unfortunately. Perhaps, I make something wrong. The Midi Event Filter is a MFX with its own midi track. The synth has another track. How can I combine these tracks, so that the midi is first send to the midi track and then to the synth track? At the midi track, I made the settings I--> Midi in and O--> track with the synth. Then I set both tracks at Midi through. But at the synth track, there is no possibility to set the midi track as midi in. Do you have an idea?
