  • Get all Pro CHANNELS modules as normal VST plugins too! (p.3)

As I understand it, ProChannel plugs ARE VSTs but with some proprietary changes.

I would love to be able to use the Concrete Limiter on my laptop 8.5.

With a little thought, the ProChannel plugs could have been so much more compact. Like hiding the knobs, for example.

Maybe I’m too cynical but… if you could use Pro CHANNELS modules as normal VST plugins, then you could use then in any DAW that complied with VST standards.

I thought the concept of Pro CHANNELS modules (at least in part) is a cleaver-marketing strategy to keep us locked in to cake’s X2,X3,X4…………

But as I said, Maybe I’m too cynical

It does do that which is obviously an issue for some but the PC's biggest advantage by far is that the UI automatically follows track selection. No longer do I have to put up with tens (hundreds?) of VST GUIs cluttering up my workspace, and never able to find the one I actually want to use.

YMMV of course.

Karl, this aspect of it alone to me is an absolute godsend.

I spend a lot of time comparing different EQ plots, say on Toms or Rhythm guitars. It's just so easy to open up the relevant PC channels in Console View and thy're all there. Ctrl + Click to close them all again.

Sometime ago I had seen where Panup had pulled off running one of the PC plugs, maybe the PC2A? I forget, as a regular VST by hacking around with some registry settings fwiw.

You might be able to read about it on his forum, www.sonarmods.com me thinks.

subjective because:

I find the soft tube saturation knob on the ProChannel to be absolutely useless.  Infact, I dislike that Sot Tube Knob so much, that its made me less than interested in purchasing anything soft tube..   Not, "disinterested," but not chomping at the bit for their plugins.  Couple that with iLok..

However..  I really like the Cakewalk Saturation Knob.  I think it sounds fantastic.  Its got, "kick."

Being able to add FX to the Pro Channel is nice, but it really falls short in that you can't see what effects you have on your tracks/buses.

When they are in the FX Bin you can get an overall idea of what's on your tracks and get a rough idea of what load is being placed on your system.

For example ... this project has roughly 50 FX in it ...

I've been forcing myself to use FX Chains only because I can see them phasing out the FX Bin, which I vehemently appose, but there's nothing I can do about it.

That's exactly the kind of foresight successful trading takes.

Disclaimer: That is not advice!

That could be the last straw for me. The PChannel really doesn't interest me much. Mostly because of the EQ GUI. That, and scrolling it is so cumbersome.

I don't get the issue.  You can use any third party software in the fx chains within the strip.  Just like the effects bin.

Well, BREVERB SONAR is a VST that is loaded in the Fx Bin but it cannot be used in any other DAW (including, get this, X1).

Well ... I pointed out a big problem, and posted a screenshot.

Here's a link to the post.
