  • X2 - Piano Roll - Cannot select notes

For some reason, I cannot select notes in piano roll. The right-click "lasso" in smart tool does not work, and neither does left click in select mode.

Track View selection works, and when I select a range of notes via Track View, I can see them hilighted in the piano roll. But when I try to select them in the piano roll, nothing gets highlighted.

If I click on a piano key on the left, notes on that key gets selected, and if I highlight a range in the piano roll's timeline, the appropriate notes gets select. I just can do any direct selection of notes themselves.

Restarting Sonar does not help.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix?

Have you accidently disabled editing for the track in the prv track list? Although you should get a warning if that is the case.

Interesting... I can add notes, but I cannot select note properties, and I cannot draw velocities...

And when I add notes, it adds them to a new clip, not the existing clip.

And if I double-click on a different clip, I can select and change notes just fine...

So it seems like the clip I've been trying to edit is "locked", or there is an invisible clip sitting on top of it.

...and guess what, if I then click on the "locked" clip, it's no longer locked, and I can edit it.

I then exit Sonar, and can repeat it. At first, the clip is uneditable. If I then select a different clip, and then come back to the first clip, it's editable again.

Very odd!

Something similar happened to me when I first got X2.

The only way to get the clip functioning again was to right click on it and tell it to bounce to clip.

Sounds like you may have come across a bug there, can you replicate it at all?

Yes, if I open my project, it starts with the piano roll up, but I cannot select (or edit) any notes in that piano roll. I then have to double-click on a different clip, and then select the original clip, and then it works.

It's a very short test project. Do you want me to email it to you so that you can see if it's broken for you? Or should I just send it to Cakewalk? (Though I suppose they are super-busy fixing other bugs right now)

I'd report it as a bug if I were you especially if you can repeat it consistently.

I'm more than happy to look at it as well if you want though. Unfortunately fixing it will be beyond me though.

That's because you're untalented Karl

I was able to simplify my project (strip out all synths and buses and extraneous tracks).

Here's a link:

When the project opens, you should see 1 track and (hopefully) the piano roll open showing two sets of notes: "A" and "B". You can then try to select some of these notes via either of the following 2 methods:

1) smart tool - right click drag around them
2) select tool - left click drag around them

For me, both methods work on the "A" notes, but not the "B" notes, despite them being in the same track.

Do you get the same behavior?

I do. I can't edit or select them either.

I notice that they (B) are on a different channel to A but that shouldn't make them unselectable AFAIK.

Stranger still I can't change the channel in the event list either.

I'll have a deeper look and see what I can come up with but it looks like a bug to me.
