Hello all, I need recommendations for a file converter (aif to wav), preferably free. Aif files are at 44.1/24bit. I need to convert to wav at 44.1/24bit. Thanks!

There is another freebie that is quite handy, as it also allows the downloading and conversion of YouTube clips, so that you can download a video and then convert it to a bunch of other formats.

You can also sick this thing on files already on your system and convert them to other formats.

It's called the YTD Video Downloader.  Just go to www.downloads.com and look for it.  Every once in a while when you open it, it will ask if you want to upgrade - just close that pop-up if you wish to decline their offer, and go about your business.

Why couldn't you use Sonar to do it?

Yep, you could just use SONAR to do it, if you'd like.

You could - but the YTD Video Downloader allows you to batch up a bunch of them - they just do their thing in the background, so it's a lot faster.

why use a sledge hammer to crack a walnut :)  http://www.wavosaur.com/

will do it , batch mode, just set the input folder to where the AIFF is and make another folder to output and select "normalise 0db" *IN BATCH MODE* and you'll get wav's

load up wavsaur.. load up any daw.. see which is quicker at loop chopping and batch converting..  much as wavsaur isn't a great DAW :)

over time you find small programs that are handy for doing tasks quick. e.g. irfanview is handy at doing batch image resizing for my ebay listings.

Hmm.
I didn't know Sonar could import or export AIFF.
Probably because I've never used that file type.
Good to know tho.

Thanks all. I tried Sonar and Audacity as well as Wavosaur, but with no luck. However, this thread has sparked a thought, something that often happens when fils move from Mac to PC - file extensions. I'll try tinkering with them and see if that fixes the problem. Right now, with an .aif extension they're not being recognized. Maybe adding the second "f" will make them recognizable?

How are you importing them?
