Michael,

I feel your pain!  Wish my studio had more padding.  My head hurts! .  I've built many a system in my 40+ years in IT.  I can tell you from an architectural standpoint, not all USB 2.0 buses are equal across different motherboard manufacturers (that includes Dell).  I can tell you that I've had the most success with ASUS motherboards. My current MB is an ASUS Sabertooth Z77 running an i5 3570K chipset.  ASUS, like all the others have updates to their BIOS, chipset and drivers (i.e. USB 2.0 & 3.0).  The other issue could be other USB 2.0 devices competing on the same bus.  How long is your USB cable from the AudioBox to your DAW?  Try disabling as many things in your startup as you can using MSCONFIG.  Also, found that any AV or disk defragmentation program induces havoc! Have you run the DPC Latency checker on your system. Have you disabled CPU parking?  One thing I have noticed is that when you increase ASIO buffer size, the SONAR X2 process (SONARPDR.EXE) memory consumption goes way up.  Going from 256 to 2048 increases the memory footprint from around 750 MB to 1.3 GB.  Almost double.  One other thing that I thought of.  Do you have any other ASIO drivers (especially ASIO4ALL) running along with the AudioBox ASIO drivers?  If so, disable them or remove them if you don't need them.  Maybe you've tried all of these steps.  Hoping maybe you didn't and one of these fixes your issue.  Let me know.

I see you are online. I have had all the same problems and have other thread on this forum and others. Had the problems on a new DellXPS 702X with 8mb ram and never could get it below 23ms with any drivers--I`ve tried them all. So, had someone build me a new system that flies with 16mb ram (yes matching) and even worse problems but similar. I can`t go below 23ms 1024 samples without rice krispies. And this happened with a client in the studio and wasted 2 hours of his time and also Sonar suspending and crashing. I would happily phone from Japan to anyone who can fix this. I have tried every tweak the internet has to offer as far as I know. Presonus 1818vsl. I managed with the laptop to have a 3 days drum bass session using all inputs and not a hiccup at 23ms. I so feel for you man. Thank God my studio is padded as I have put my head to the wall and cried. Please someone put all of your major tweaks that aren`t common tweaks that you can find on google in a post/thread and save us all.

I sure hope not!

You probably need more RAM...................

Hi--wow early where you are. Asus P8Z77-V LK. i53570chipset USB cable one meter. I don`t know what CPU parking is. Please instruct. Did the disable msconfig tweak on the laptop but not the desktop. Please send me a link how to do that if possible. No other drivers but the ASIO though I have tried WDM/WASAPI. Thank you so much for the help. I have lost so much time and running out of it. Do you happen to have the Asus AI Suite installed?  It's known to cause audio glitches.  DPC Latency checker will show problems that go away the instant you disable it.  I ask, because you have an Asus motherboard and they bundle it with their boards.

I will check--if I know how. I ran the DPC latency checker but don't totally understand it--latency monitor as well. How do you undo the AI Suite?

Should I have 64bit double precision engine checked?

Haven't noticed too much of a difference checked or unchecked, but if your running Windows 7 64-bit, then yes.

Michael, check your e-mail.  Easier for me to send you screen shots from there on the MSCONFIG settings and CPU core parking (unparking)

I would agree.  Remove the whole AI Suite in Add/Remove programs.  Bloatware in my opinion.

To all,

I spent several hours talking with and chatting with Mike from Japan, as he was having BOATLOADS of trouble trying to work with his new Presonus AudioBox 1818VSL interface in Sonar X2.

We went through the WRINGER on this one, BUT we got it fixed.  (well there is one more tweak, but he went to bed to get some rest before his client shows up - hope he reads this before his client gets mad).

Anyways, Mike's problems were in crackles and such, as well as it having massive problems with anything below a setting of 1024 samples in the interface ASIO panel.

We reviewed everything, and it turns out that there is a DEFINITE problem with the interface if you actually use the old legacy MIDI ports in the back.  They just freak it out and are the cause of his problems.

He is now running with a total roundtrip latency of I think under 7 ms.  That's as far as we got before his brain's light bulb burned out.

When he wakes and hopefully reads this, he should change the Performance setting in the ASIO panel of the interface to Normal, rather than Fastest.

Other than that he seems to be ok now.
