Win 7 64bit, Sonar 8.5, I'd like to import an mp4 and play around with doing some editing of the audio but when I try to import the file the mp4 format isn't one of the  options in the list of file extensions. What do I need to do to do this? Thanks, john

Convert to another video format.
I use Xilisoft Video Converter.

You need Quicktime for Sonar to load mp4 videos.  Since it's only available in a 32 bit form, you need to run the Sonar 32 bit version, which will work even on the 64 bit versions of Windows.

Then when you go to import the video, under the "Files of type" dropdown list, choose "All Files (*.*)"  and your mp4 video will be visible.

Correctamundo - However, from my experience, Avi files work so much better in Sonar than anything else.  So I still convert MP4s to Avi, using the free Win X HD app.  Avis play beautifully in Sonar for me, while .wmvs and MP4s glitch out, come in upside down, make Sonar sluggish etc.

With the other extensions, Sonar says format is unsupported. Problem with AVI is that I get huge file sizes and I tried bringing the quality down but still same problem. Working on a 3m43s corporate video I ended up with a 279Mb video clip which I didn't mind. But soon I will be working on a feature length movie (approx 2hrs) and I have no idea how I'll manage 120mins of footage. If you could give me some pointers as to what to do I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance, Sam

Sonar can import AVI, MPG and MOV (Quicktime) formats. 

You might want to post in the X1 forum. This is the old abandoned version. There seems to be the consensuses that Sonar is not strong in the video editing dept. It's features are for simple work only.

hey sam... you're probably going to just have to work with the parts that have the music cues.  split the file at the points that the music is going to show up, write the music, then let the sound editor on the backend integrate them into the final product.  sonar won't be able to handle that kind of video-intensive task.
