Hey - I tried getting Catanya to show up in Sonar, and can't seem to find it ANYWHERE.

I downloaded the demo and installed it - it automatically went to the C:/Program Files (x86)/Cake/Vstplugins folder.

I opened Sonar X2 and made sure that the path was in the VST scan paths, then did a scan of VST folders (it scans anyways at startup, but I went ahead and did it anyway).

I cannot get it to show up as an effect or a synth or as anything.

I even tried the Red Robin call, to see it would show up and say 'yum'!

Please detail the steps for me to get this able to be pulled in to a Sonar project.  I can do the reconfigure stuff, if needed, but it is just not showing up.

I cannot assist in solving your issue with Catanya if I cannot get it to show up on my system.

Thanks,

Did some more digging - Catanya does not work in 64-bit Sonar.  I do not have 32-bit X2 installed, so I am afraid I cannot assist you after all with this.

Sorry - wish you good luck in getting past your issues here.

hi, thanks for trying, may be i wasn't clear that catanya is just an example, you could use any VST that sends midi out :)

If you have any others to have me try, I would be happy to.

After looking at the other thread and losing the will to live, I've just tried to run Jamstix and Kirnu at the same time. With this configuration, I can't record the midi from Jamstix, and have crashed Sonar several times.

So I don't really understand what the original problem was, but these 2 midi out plugins don't appear to work happily together. Of course, it might be a problem with one or both of the plugins, which is why someone in the other thread suggested trying different combinations. I don't have any other plugs that produce midi.

I am in the process of getting ready to try out the dreaded Jamstix/Kimu Killer Kombo, to see what happens on my Win7 x64 X2 x64 system.

Can you please tell me what I need to do in X2 to test them out?

Thanks - I have no probs using my system to try to help you guys - I just confess to having NO clue as to how to use these guys.  So far, it seems trickier than unclasping someone's bra one-handed without looking, while they are dancing, and parts of the bra are trapped under rolls of yeasty unwashed fat... aaaarrrrgggghhh

I appreciate someone posting some configuration and basic use steps for this test - sorry about any mental images I may have seared into your brains.  (well, not really sorry I suppose - I got a mean streak - hee hee)

Bigdogs, here are two snippets from the Jamstix documentation:

1.  When the host plays, Jamstix plays. The resulting arrangement is stored within Jamstix so there is no need to
record its performance in the host. Simply load/save your host project and the Jamstix arrangement is automatically saved and recalled.

2.  Furthermore, Jamstix allows you to drag-&-drop bars, parts or a whole song to the host to get
MIDI clips of those items for further use in the host outside of Jamstix.

From this, it would seem that they have some other way of getting a hold of its apparently internally-stored clips to somehow paste them into other tracks that you could manipulate outside of Jamstix.

At least, that is how I read that.

Have you tried working with its output as they describe?

They do not seem to have any links to online doc, but if you still have it on your system, take a spin through there and let me know what you think.

Hi Bob,
It's the MIDI out functionality that the OP was talking about  rather than the particular VSTi. I was just using Jamstix because it happens to have MIDI out

I'm familiar those ways of working with Jamstix, however Sonar doesn't appear to support MIDI drag and drop from Jamsitx ( I've got Jamstix 2, it might work in the latest version).

When Jamstix is in a project without Kirnu, I can record the midi directly from Jamstix (via its MIDI out) so that I can edit the midi and just use Jamstix as a sample player (or replace it with SSD). You need the MIDI to be able to bounce to audio, and I can't get your point 2. to work.

To test the combination:

load Jamstix and Kirnu, checking Enable MIDI out in both cases, and, for clarity, using separate MIDI and Audio tracks rather than an Instrument track.

Load a synth, and change its MIDI in to Kirnu omni.

Load a patch into Kirnu

Click Echo on for Kirnu and the synth - you should be able to play your synth, which will respond to midi from kirnu, while Jamstix does its thing. However, if I try to record e.g. the Jamstix midi out, I get no midi, and often I get Sonar to crash. Sonar is otherwise stable for me, and, as I said earlier, I can normally record the midi out from Jamstix, so long as it's not competing with kirnu.

I'll try to understand this - and will let you know what happens - look for a puff of smoke on the horizon - that will be my computer.

hi guys, thanks for trying, and yes as simon says it's no vst in particular, rather those that send midi out... also, i believe the drag'n'drop works in v3 jamstix (and there's a x64 native beta avaiable to reg users) p
