  • Resolved: X2 -- How do I make now-time snap according to snap settings?

I've asked this before, but I'm afraid my question wasn't direct enough, and I didn't get a definitive response. Sorry to ask again.

I played with snap settings, and have tried it at its strongest, most stringent setting -- but still, when I click in the time ruler (in any view), the now time marker lands wherever I click, instead of on the nearest snap position. This makes it very difficult for me to select a range of music -- I end up selecting some notes I don't want to select, or not selecting some notes that I do want to select.
Thanks!
Mike

It should simply be a matter of turning snap on and checking the strength but I guess you are already doing that.

If so I haven't much idea as to why it isn't working. The snap button is presumably lit?

Yes, I've done all that, and the snap button is lit.

Is it all projects? There's def something askew as it works okay here and I'm guessing by the lack of complaints on here it's working for others to.

Is that with manual snap or the smart grid or both?

If I am reading this right the Now Time is not going to snap itself to an event.  To me this a selection issue not a snap issue.

Then again I could be all wrong.  I always thought snap was for notes and events not for the now time. However the now time can be used as a snap point.

Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that none of us appeared to have issues with the way Snap worked in 8.5 and suddenly, there's one or two threads a day about Snap issues, some of which, we're not sure are bugs or just illogical design choices?

I seriously think Cakewalk needs to rethink Snap, and ask themselves "does it need to be this complicated or would people prefer a simpler Snap?"

I recall lots of threads on snap and the issues with magnetic strength in 8.5.

In X1 the problem was that it became global  and not independent which users wanted. I am unaware of actual bugs being posted.

I personally don't see what is complicated about it. I turn it on and it works.

If anything the complicated thing was the "Magnetic Strength" which was at it's highest when off. Now that was confusing. The new intensity is much easier. IMHO of course.

TBH I have smart grid on one snap and the other set to a set resolution depending on which view I'm using. (I also use per screenset snap)

John & FastBikerBoy:

There's been a few threads about Snap in X2 also already, so clearly it's not as intuitive as perhaps Cakewalk would have liked. Just within the first few pages of this forum...

There's this thread: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2690107
Then there's this one: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2687520

...and this one: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2687451

And this (Scott Garrigus says keybindings should work with Snap settings, they don't): http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2685895

Not to change direction, but is it possible the O/P is zoomed out to see a large range but the snap is set to 64th notes? I ran into this many moons ago. It was easily verified by changing the snap to whole notes. After doing this I could observe that it was snapping to some place other than the cursor position.
