  • Can't assign expression pedal to Amplitube3?

Just got an expression pedal to control wah and volume pedal in Amplitube3.

I can see the MIDI meter showing data when I move the pedal, yet in Amplitube3 hitting assign MIDI and moving the pedal does nothing, it's like Amplitube3 is not getting the data even though the midi meter in Sonar is moving when I press the pedal.

Anything I need to activate so Amplitube can see the midi data? I tried "configure as synth" in a feeble attempt at making it work but... nothing

If I load a setup in vsthost outside of Sonar it works fine.

EDIT: It's got to be something about Amplitube actually sitting on an audio track which doesn't normally receive MIDI, but is there a solution for that?

I think you have to configure it as a synth in the Plugin Properties page in the Plugin Manager..

I'm not sure, I'm not MIDI controlling my Amp Sims. But I think I'm right on this and if so, it will work in the exact same way, except you'll have it in the Synth Rack and it can receive MIDI data, like an expression pedal.

Or you can enable automation for the parameter in Amplitube3 and then use the midi learn function to control it. Then just record the automation.

True dat Tom, but it's worth mentioning that when using the MIDI learn function for a parameter, he would have to un-learn and re-learn it whenever he wants to use the Expression pedal with other instances of Amplitube or other VST's. But sure, that's a good way to accomplish the same thing

So far I've tried adding it normally, so I have an audio track with kontakt and my guitar library loaded into kontakt, then a midi track sending to kontakt with Amplitube3 as an effect, set Amplitube to "configure as synth" that doesn't seem to work.

Then I've tried adding kontakt as "Simple instrument track" so both kontakt and Amplitube3 is on the same track, then "configure as synth" for Amplitube3.

In both cases Amplitube doesn't see the midi data when I try to activate midi learn in Amplitube, there's midi data in Sonar on the track when I move the pedal but it's just not seen by the plugin.

I've had limited success using ACT. Midi learn doesn't work within the VST,but if you can get what you want to control with pedal to show up in ACT ,the midi learn will work. You may have to scroll through Act banks to find the parameter you want to control.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but have you assigned the controll in amplitube that you want to control with the pedal, to receive MIDI data from the same MIDI CC that your pedal is sending out?

^ There's a "midi learn" feature when you context click on anything in Amplitube3 so it's supposed to automatically bind the cc the pedal is sending when midi learn is activated and you move the pedal, it works fine in my "vsthost" program, just not in Sonar.

I'll try and see if I can wrangle it into working via ACT.

Really want this to work, it's awesome to set up Amplitube with the volume pedal feeding an amp, so when you are at low volume you get clean sound, the more you turn the volume up the more distortion, allows for very expressive playing. Also works amazing with a hammond rotary cab set to control the speed of the rotation.

with any plugin configured as a synth you need a second midi track that is outputting midi data to that vst. so, you would have one midi track sending data out to kontakt and one sending to amplitube3. they can both be set to receive data from your midi controller but the routing is different. if you try to record or write amplitube's midi data on the kontakt midi track that midi data is being sent to kontakt.  i wish there was a midi send capability like a bus send but this is how the routing works.
