It's quite ok to simply move the dll file to the cakewalk vst folder and rescan. Alternately you can point cakewalks vst path to C:\Program Files\Vstplugins but I prefer the first method.
This is the usual mistake people make. All of the registry entries are still pointing where the Toontrack installers placed the DLL. Now when you run the next TT update on EZD, it will likely plunk a new DLL back at that point and your Cakewalk directory version won't be updated unless you remember to drag and drop the new version of the DLL into the VSTplugins directory. This is a workable situation but I've seen it bite people unexpectedly.
I don't think it's a mistake. I mean I've not (as yet) had any problems doing it that way.
I can see what you mean about the registry and update paths but as I said, my preferred method is to take care and read where the installer wants to install your 64bit dll before you go ahead.
I have moved the dll and then later run an update and got a message saying, "can not locate BFD Eco 64bit dll" (or whatever) and in that case I just pointed it to cakewalks vst folder and that worked as expected and also corrected the registry too.
