I presently have X2 on my regular home PC, but tomorrow I'm receiving a really fast laptop that I'm going to use almost exclusively for recording.

My X2 installation was an upgrade purchase from X1.  So when I go to install X2 in my new laptop, will I first have to install X1 because my purchase of X2 was an upgrade or can I just install the X2 files by themselves?

You can install X2 only if you wish. The X2 upgrade does not depend on any X1 files. SONAR upgrades are full versions.

Do you think that would be the best way to go or will I be missing out on certain instruments, etc. if I leave out X1?

You can always add instruments and effects from prior versions by performing a custom install of the prior version.

They did drop Beatscape betweem X1 and X2, according to the web site product doc on included instruments.  I don't happen to use it, but I was answering another thread and it had come up.

Mr Cook is correct - should you want to add anything back in from X1 that is not present in X2, just run a custom X1 install and you are all set.

The kicker with Beatscape is that the rx2 files are now part of loops and one-shots. If you go back and install Beatscape you get a duplicate 4GB library of rx2 files. So unless you just want to burn 4GB you are going to have to do a little cleanup after the install. Unless you already have projects dependent on Beatscape, I would just forget about that synth, Cakewalk already has.

Thanks for that tip. Indeed I compared the two and aside from a few minor name changes they are identical.


So I deleted my "Beatscape Factory Content" and made a junction to the Loops folder with the old name. Then open Beatscape and hit F5 to refresh the file list. Works fine.
