That is a very strong statement about what it will run on. If you could refer me to where CW has stated that I would be very interested.
I think what Bub is referring to only applies to XP.  In some thread, somewhere, Noel specifically stated that the DLLs in Win8 are not backwards compatible with XP, so chances are that the X2 patch won't even install on XP.   But with Vista I think the main drawback is the lack of touchscreen features because of those same Win8 DLL changes.    But I don't recall Noel ever saying that the X2 patch(es) won't install on Vista.
The thread is there ... he who is blocked knows it's there. He's just being difficult, which is why I have him blocked.

Noel said once they implement Multi-touch support, there is a "possibility Vista will load X2". That means they don't expect it to ... he also said there has been no testing on Vista and there will be no support for Vista.

LINK TO NOEL'S POST

A simple search leads you right to the post ... but no, he'd rather be an ass about it, which is why he remains blocked.

Vista 32 running fine here. I was just running it at 1.3ms latency while input monitoring the new TH2... The reworked audio engine is amazing!

Noel Brothwick, "there is a possibility that Vista will still load X2 (no official testing or support though)"

Guys ... it's time to let go of Vista ... just like I had to let go of DOS 6.22 and then Windows XP SP3.

Good luck with that Keni.

do not buy x2 thinking you will run it on windows vista for much longer.
they say that for a reason.
if you understand a little behind the engine of windows xp,vista and 7 and 8 you would realize this,xp and vista are almost the same os besides a new skin and improvmenets to graphics.
windows 7 is a whole new os-as windows 8 is as well but is somewhat like 7.once a patch is released for x2,im guessing its going to be for windows 8 support.
once that is done, its all over except the crying.

X2 running very smooth for me on Vista32.
Not having all the crashes and glitches being reported in the forum.

Below is the full text from Noel's post.

"As of today X2 loads and works fine in Vista which is similar to Win7 in many ways.
However once we do Win8 support the multitouch features will only work on Win8 and Win7. Microsoft actually blocks that stuff out on Vista. I'm not certain how this will pan out myself until we finish the work but there is a possibility that Vista will still load X2 (no official testing or support though)."

I am not sure how you can get Vista will not run X2 from the above quote. As for the upcoming Windows 8 patch I read it as Noel is not sure that Vista wont run it. Hence the word "possibility". None the less I do advise in my case to upgrade the OS to Win 8.

The OP asked simply is anybody running Vista and X2. I answered that I was. Others have done the same.  I'm not sure why you have such a hostile attitude towards me but it does not serve you well.  Nor does your opinion of me take away from the facts that are being clearly stated here. Its odd to offer an opinion about postings your are not reading.

To Charlie actually Vista and Windows 7 have a lot in common. It is a fact that it is XP that is not compatible with Vista. Vista and XP have very little in common.

But in the end the merits of any OS is not important in this thread. What is important is whether a Vista user can run Sonar X2.

Just guessing that he replied to me because I have him blocked ... and quite frankly could care less what he says ... I'm just replying for the humor value to see if I nailed it ...

I'd be willing to bet my DAW that he twisted what Noel said in to something like 'Vista will work', even though Noel made it crystal clear Vista is not supported and after the Windows 8 multitouch patch there is only a "possibility" it will run, which means, there is a greater likely hood it will not ... that's why Noel said, "no official testing or support" .....

Just guessing, but I'd be willing to bet my DAW that's how he twisted it ...

Go ahead and run X2 on Vista even though Cakewalks CTO said it is not supported or tested and more than likely won't run after the first official patch.

I could care less how he struggles with his system ... it could only run 3 tracks and crash every 30 seconds and he'd still say Sonar is the best DAW ever made ... so it's impossible to be reasonable and talk fact with someone like that ... hence the blocking ...

I'm just guessing here at his reply ... did I nail it?

Why so much drama?

Bottom line is Vista works for now - and users should change in the future. I'm using/pushing X2 on Vista 64 everyday. Purrs like a kitten.
Dreading the upgrade - but the clock is ticking. So I'm bracing for the change.

Does anyone know if it's okay to upgrade over top of Vista or is that definitely the wrong thing to do?
