I don't like the way X2 automatically changes snap resolution based on the zoom level. However, when I click the "toggle smart grid" off, it turns off snapping completely. Is there a way to get X2 to work like X1, where the piano roll has its snap resolution (e.g., 1/16 note) and the track view has its own resolution (e.g., whole measure)?

The separate snap in the PRV still works but just as in X1 the global snap needs to be on for the PRV snap to work. Remember that you can also have two separate snap settings now, the primary and alternate. Set up the alternate by holding N down while adjusting the snap settings and switch temporarily between the two by holding down the N key or switch permanently by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N. When you switch permanently the alternate becomes the primary and vice versa.

It's also possible to have separate snap settings per screenset by setting a variable in the Prefs-->File--->Initialization File. The variable is "IncludeSnapInScreenset=1"

The smart grid though is turned on or off by left click and holding the resolution button and then selecting or deselecting "Smart grid" from the drop down.

There's certainly one thing X2 can't be accused of and that's being short of snap grid options.  (Not saying you are BTW).

Thanks! This answers a question I had asked in a different thread. I couldn't quite figure out the relationship between the two (never had X1 - went right from 8.5 to X2). 


Now is there any way to assign a key binding to certain note lengths?

Not sure if you're asking about different note lengths in terms of snap or note duration, but the answer is yes to both. In the Key Bindings category of the Preferences dialog box, search for Snap Whole Note, Snap 1/2 Note, etc. in the Bind Context list. Or search for Whole Note Duration, 1/2 Note Duration, etc.

They can also be assigned to different key bindings.

Yes, but it's not working for me. I posted earlier that when I assign  a key to SNAP On/Off, it only works once and then quits.
 
I tried this in X1 and it works there so it must be a bug in X2??
