Here's another issue with track lanes that's causing me discomfort...

I can't make the lanes small enuf for when I want to see all my tracks with one track's lanes exposed... The minimum lane height is too large...

This seems to be an issue for me in both directions... I can't make the lanes small/large (height) enuf for my needs...

I should be able to make the lanes as small as I can a track... and I should be able to zoom an individual lane as if it is a track!

Some of don't have great eyes! ;-)

I agree, Keni, as I have written elsewhere.  The lane's minimum size is limited by the presence of the mute/solo buttons and clip menu in each lane.  You can't minimize those out of the picture.  As much as I need the mute/solo buttons for each lane, I don't need the clips drop-down menu very often, so I wish the lanes could minimize to cover up the menu.

I liked layers better, because I could do 12+ takes in two tracks simultaneously and see all the layers in both tracks by minimizing the track size.  I can only fit 9 takes in two tracks on my screen with X2 take lanes.  Bummer!
Cake should really take a hard look at the functionality of these new take lanes and restore most of the possibilities we had with layers and reduce clicks to view/retract the lanes.  Take lanes are a big change, with a lot of hoopla, but it's not working out so well.  Not to mention the bugginess of pasting clips into lanes.

I'm not a fan of adding a lane and the content is moved to the smaller lane that can not be resized . And you can not drag that content to the larger lane .When you add a lane. But collapse it and the content returns to the larger lane.
When Im doing takes or working in lanes I wanna use the larger sized lane to edit . Seems a little improvement could be added there .

Yes... I too was happeir (at the moment) with layers... They had some bugs and some missing features, but the set of working features was more in line with my needs...

I think that the buttons and such should appear/disappear as they do in a track when the track is smaller than needed... and if we can change the order of widgets as we can in all tracks/busses... we should be able to keep the mute button first (I too need it far more than the clips widget as I use a dbl-click to call it up most of the time anyway...)

I often have a dozen or more layers/lanes in a track when I'm in writing mode and with this large minimum size it's gonna make my comping much more difficult...

I just feature requested this... Let's get a lot of people to do so and raise it's status to something important!

I'm with you 1000%.

Although I think track lanes are a great addition I prefer Layers. much more useful for my workflow.

Why do they introduce a great feature only to remove it & replace it with IMO a more cumbersome method of editing?
Why not have both available as options?

Hi Carl...

I agree with you in my wishes as well... but I also know that often it's too hard to keep them both... and I don't think they intentionally made them harder, but new ideas can take a while to really think thru and come up with all the right solutions...

If they could have simply fixed the bugs with layers I would have been perfectly happy... But those bugs have been with us for many more releases than even X1.... This attempt at a solution is just not complete and hopefully with some more work it will be as good or better than layers (I hope) There really isn't that much difference with these bugs ironed out and feature set made more complete/robust...

At least they left our old envelope editing in place so we're not forced to use lanes... I'm not a big fan of lanes for my work style...

+1   I happen to already like lanes more than layers, but I would really like more control over their size.   That would make the biggest difference for me at the moment.

You can't create and sell a solution until you create a problem.

timidi... ;-)

I just feature requested some changes in this stuff...

I'm not a fan of lanes and I'm now dealing with some of the issues...

Lanes require extra screen real estate instead of existing within a track, they are below it requiring all the extra space.... and then zoom problems/limitations on top of that...

I often need to see many tracks and need to see the layers/lanes that exist within one or two at the same time... I've lost a huge amount of screen real estate with only the lanes approach so I'm now voting with others to have both lanes/layers somewhat as we have envelopes on a track or displayed as separate lanes...

I'm a 'big fan' of having both options! Let the user decide as needed...

anyone else want to chime in for a feature request? the more that do the more likely and sooner the Bakers will give it time...

I much prefer the new Track Lanes over the previous Layers. For me it is more useful and adds more flexibility.
As an example, in PRV; I am working on a 64 bar midi sequence and I want an alternate 16 bar suggestion between bars 24 and 40. I can now move that piece in a new Lane and mute it. With layers muting left the muted outlines right there in the PRV. So one can try various
takes of this 24-40 section all in new Lanes.

For real estate one can create a track folder and move one or more tracks into the folder. A collapsed folder is now minimum Track View sizable.
