I wish that worked for me but it doesn't suite my needs...

I'm still seeing the muted clips in the track view so it's not helping in that way either... I have been making safety copies of tracks with all pieces and hiding them leaving the visible copy with only the pieces I want....

You are correct.
I thought the PRV would display the selected Lane only, but is a morph of the previous Layers concept.
Hopefully since this is the first incarnation of Sonar using Lanes, they can continue to develop it.
Otherwise I will continue by making a "dummy midi track" as a holder and copy the contents there. But, make that Folder for the real estate savings.

I just feature requested some changes in this stuff...

I'm not a fan of lanes and I'm now dealing with some of the issues...

Lanes require extra screen real estate instead of existing within a track, they are below it requiring all the extra space.... and then zoom problems/limitations on top of that...

I often need to see many tracks and need to see the layers/lanes that exist within one or two at the same time... I've lost a huge amount of screen real estate with only the lanes approach so I'm now voting with others to have both lanes/layers somewhat as we have envelopes on a track or displayed as separate lanes...

I'm a 'big fan' of having both options! Let the user decide as needed...

anyone else want to chime in for a feature request? the more that do the more likely and sooner the Bakers will give it time...

I haven't really looked into the lanes much as the whole X thing is new to me.


But, May I suggest to forget they are there and just use tracks. The whole point of layers and lanes sort of illudes me sometimes.
Just clone some tracks and work that way.

I don't use folders much... I don't find them helpful at the moment... Maybe if they displayed some kind of wave images in the folder's area instead of simple color bars I might use it... Probably too small to get an image with current resolution? ...

This is why I usually have (had) layers displayed within a track of equal height as my others ((F)...

Now if the track displayed only the selected clips (as it appeared it did in the video), I could probably enjoy the lanes more... right now when I collapse the lanes I typically have muted clips on top of the active clip as I did in X1. Maybe this is a bug? I will write it up as a bug unless I hear (quickly) that it is operating as expected in this manner... Then I will put in a feature request! ;-)

You're in for some treats, some improvements, and some frustration... Hopefully mostly the first two. Getting used to the new paradigm and finding what works for you and what doesn't...

In the end I think you'll find it a worthwhile experience... I have my joys, as well as my complaints with the X series, but it works well and has some fabulous abilities!

Hmmm... I wasn't speaking of that, but if this is also the case, it's gotta be a bug... In X1, muted clips don't show in the PRV... Maybe it's an option that I never think about?

I was speaking of the track's clip area as opposed to the Lane's display... when the Lanes are closed down so only the track is displayed I expected to see only the selected clips. Instead I get as I did in all earlier releases of mostly muted clips on top of the selected clips there by hiding the selected wave displays...

I was sure I saw it do as I wish/hope in one of the videos and was very disappointed that this issue was not attended... I've now posted about this in a few responses so I guess it's time to report a bug until I find out it's not and then change it to a feature request! ;-)
