Hi friends, just finishing up a track that I've been producing in my free time (aka all the time I don't spend at work or hanging with the girlfriend :), and I'd love to hear your feedback on it!

It's my first time working with a vocalist in a few years so I'm particularly interested to hear what you guys think about the vocals- do they sit nicely in the mix? How's the performance?

I should also note that this is the original mix, with my own homebrew "mastering," for preview purposes before sending it off to my mastering engineer for a proper once-or-twice-over. :]

Thanks so much for listening, everybody!

I like it!   It's got a big, spacy feel but still somewhat laid back.

The vocals might fall a little under the music here and there, but overall I think they sit pretty well.   Love the FX during the intro and outro.

I have to second stevec.
The vocals is mixed a bit on the soft side. She is doing a great performance so let that 'sing' through.
I'm confused by the intro. Up to 0:30 into the song I was convinced there was something wrong with the recording. After 0:30 the effect felt more like it belonged to and contributed to the song.

I really like the tune as well but I have to agree on the intro....it just didnt work for me...although if this was nestled inbetween a couple other tunes it might work...but on its own it left me wondering.

cool tune tho....

I agree that the vocal needs to come up a little. The mix is clean and spacey enough. I also agree with what others are saying about the intro.

Agreed on vocal is too soft.  She sounds great so I would feature her.
The bass sound with the buzzing texture is too much for the whole song IMO.
I don't like the intro.  Seems you really don't need that slow build into the heart of the song at all.
Like your synth textures.

I sus!p!e!c!t this would work well in a club environment where the lyrics are not quite so relevant but for a listening mix the vox is far to back and the bass to forward.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the feedback, everybody! Listening to it again, I agree that the vocals could be a bit hotter. I'll take your other input into account moving forward, as well! Still have some work to do. :]

Agreed on the vox level, but I also thing you should evolve the rez on the big synth from time to time, just for variety. It is such a huge sound that it can be distracting and taking away from some of the other stuff going on.

Top notch production!

Dan

Hey everybody, thanks again for your feedback. I took a lot of it into consideration, and mixed the vocals a bit hotter, and added some dynamism to the bass sounds, among other changes.

Here's the final mix, mastered by my good friend Mark Trewella at Full Circle Mastering here in Philly. Enjoy! :]
