I don't think anyone here would question Lurssen's expertise or his involvement with the IK Mastering project, Peter.
This "Ginger and Fred" thread is just one of CW forum's peculiar niceties.

And that is why we have a Euro Goober Lawyer with a retainer. I mean on retainer.

There are some iPad "mastering" apps already out there, I have one, that I barely use. I have taken a lot of my Sonar-based stuff and ported it into the iPad for live performance using Cubase, and it's really not bad at all, IMO. As for this software from IK, I downloaded the free version and took a look. There seems to be no way to get any stuff from Cubasis to the program, it allows importing files from iTunes library, etc. but that's not what I want to do. I can mixdown to .wav  on from cubasis, but even AudioShare, Audio Copy, didn't seem to have any way to interact with the Lurssen software. Also, it does not appear to be Audiobus compatible, and that is probably a deal-breaker for me, unless they are planning on it soon, and/or will use IAA (also not supported yet, it seems, not sure), or the new equivalent of VST on iPad, the Audio Units. Seems it only would interact with GarageBand for now, and I don't feel that program is even in the same universe as Cubasis.

@thepianist53,

Thank You for the quick review. This answers several questions for me and I think I may just watch this product for now.

Kind regards,
Rick

As I said in my initial post Peter, I actually admire Gavin and his mastering techniques a great deal. I've always considered him one of the best...and still do. But, I'm sorry...and this may be just my opinion (though I doubt it)...the pseudo philosophical tripe he spouts in your/his video is beyond eye rollingly-bull hockey coughingly-cringe worthy. This is a perfect example of the old adage that warns of meeting your so called idols in person...while they still might possess great talents...they might as easily be pretentious dimwits. YMMV.

If anyone in this thread is seriously trying to minimize Gavin's mastering skills, you may not have taken a look at (or listen to the work in) his credits.  Maybe I misread or it was sideswiping him to take a crack at IK but Gavin's a top engineer with an amazing set of credits (same with Reuben from Lurssen Mastering) so if anybody is seriously doubting Gavin's abilities you may want to take a look at his credits and a listen to some of his work.  And he was deeply involved in this project, not just lending his name to it.

No need to resort to a strawman argument to defend the concept of a simplified process informed by experienced practitioners.
Whatever skepticism you encounter here is entirely about the paradigm you're trying to sell. It has nothing to do with the qualifications of those involved in its design.
I visited your booth yesterday, and saw plenty of young people obviously digging the concept of a studio you can carry in a backpack. Thats  just not this crowd.
Don't  be discouraged. It took me 20 years to accept the notion that a computer was an acceptable substitute for a tape recorder.

So is there any video of this iPad app and audio from this?  I looked but couldn't find anything.  I don't have an iPad so I can't try their demo but I am curious about this.

The desktop version might be interesting if it included the five hardware units as T-Racks modules, but I'm guessing IK would think each of those is another $150 plugin.

Still seems strange that every web article and video interview with Gavin seems to be about how analog is the only domain to master audio in, are there no world class mastering engineers that work in-the-box?
