Yup, literally.

Cue the Green Acres TV show theme song......

We closed on 28+ acres of land with a 1400 sqft cabin on it setting on a knoll.  It's very secluded... with the cabin setting about 1000 feet away from the road and not at all visible from the road or the neighbors. The backyard is 20 wooded acres with a stream crossing it as well as a stream along the southern property line. Both streams are year round flowing streams. The front yard is over 8 acres.  It's in need of some work.   We'll be cleaning the house out and remodeling plus building an addition to it.

Here's the southern stream/property line... It's called Kill Branch stream

The cabin front

Cabin back side

Driveway and power line path.... road way down there.... cabin sets back 100 feet to my 5 o'clock position.

The back yard

One of the farm sheds... a coat of paint and it'll be as good as new.

Well, it looks like we have our work cut out for us for the next year or so.... and then it'll be a matter of maintaining it.

Plans are to clear off a few acres in the back yard, it's still fairly small new growth pines back beyond the hard woods. My wife says she wants to raise goats and honeybees.   I guess I have a new career about to commence. Looks like all the money will be going to this new project..... so no new guitars or software for a while.  It'll be paint, boards, nails, fencing, farm buildings, and yup.... even a tractor.... used of course.

Congrats Herb!! I'm happy to see you're able to do something like this.

I think it's great to live out in the country (28 acres....wow!!). I told my wife that our next home will be away from city life and a bit deeper in the country (not complete wilderness though.....lol). My dream is to give our 5 children plenty of open land to live in while maintaining a few goats, chickens, vegetable gardens etc.....the only downside is I have no experience in farming and will have to learn as I go.

I'll check out the pics at home (blocked at work). Good for you Herb!!

I read the topic title and thought "Oh no!  Not more people gone too soon!"  Glad to hear the translation was literal (though it definitely looks like a serious "needs work" endeavor!).

Going for the land of milk and honey there?

Uhhhh no!  Honey yes.... milk... no.  We're thinking about meat goats as opposed to the dairy variety. I can't picture myself milking the goats every morning before the sun comes up. Whatever we get, I want them to be the kind of things that don't need daily supervision.  Taking care of the dog everyday is more than enough,
