OK... It took me a while to discover the ctl-click to drag the overall (or line segment) of an envelope up/down... A bit touchy but I hope I'll get used to it...
 
But I get the impression that the vertical level widget in the track controls is somehow meant to adjust this? I've tried adjusting it using many different key clusters, but none have moved the envelope and pressing play brings it back to the level the envelope is set at. Am I expecting something that's not there or simply not using it correctly?

I found some other methods as in the quick start guide...

Using the upper area of the envelope lane allows the level adjust for the area selected... That's cool, but so far I'm not impressed with the envelope lanes... Nothing terrible, but nothing exciting for me. I can see where they might be handy in certain situations, but I hardly ever have such... (Tho I do use quite a few envelopes)

So far? One gripe. The envelope lanes only zoom a little bit... Not enuf for me to believe I will be able to quickly, accurately set fine levels...

I'm glad we still have the last incarnation of envelopes (over clips) as I can zoom that track fast and easy to full screen...

I'm guessing I will mostly be using the old system where sadly we still have no mouse over labels (while focus is on clips) and the colors are still near impossible to detect visually in this scenario.... I hope they aren't going to drop supporting this method and that they still seek to update it more....

Still wondering 'bout that widget and it's use?

The widget you are referring to shows an envelope's current level and can also be used for automation writing. That's assuming you mean the level meter on the envelope lanes.

Yes, it's the "meter" in the envelope lane... From what you say, I take it that it can be used while in the "write" mode to adjust level as the music plays and other than that only displays the current envelope value (at now time marker)...

That's cool... Not very important for me, but I'm sure it could be handy at the right time...

Too bad you can't use it to adjust overall (master?) value when in a static mode (not in play)... I find that more needed as that's what I was trying to do. I'm hoping to find that using the value adjust in the upper portion of the envelope lane does this, but as I can't zoom the lane large enuf, fine adjustment might be very difficult...

Do you know if using the shift key while doing this will constrain the values?
