You might be right there.

Although, I have worked on radio commercials without checking them in the car first. Funny thing is: I now listen to those spots I did and I embarassed as to how bad I think they sound (it was about 3 years ago). On the other hand, some engineers I've worked with in a post for broadcast environment did check the mix on a set of Auratones. Personally, I just mixed though the Genelecs and paid carefull attention to maintaining mono compatibility for that which needs to be heard. For that matter, anything soley in the rear channels of a Dolby matrix surround mix is not mono compatible.
Don't get the wrong impression with this post. Although I've been lucky enough to work on stuff for broadcast, I am still a nobody engineer and that's not just me being modest. Most of the stuf for broadcast I was involved with was when I had an internship where I was trusted to do more than the average intern.
