Good monitoring, that you are well aquainted with, will reveal problems to you before you head out to the car.

No argument there... but if you call it done before you check it in the car, there's a good chance you'll never hear it on the radio.

word. But there's probably a pretty good chance you'll never hear it on the radio, anyway, unles you're pretty lucky in addition to being awesomely talented. Or unless you have one of those little FM-transmitter adapters that plugs into your walkman.

Cheers.

... and there's a good chance that has more to do with the caliber of the musicians than with our mix translation techniques!

Experienced studio cats produce tracks that almost mix themselves.

You might be right there. Although, I have worked on radio commercials without checking them in the car first. Funny thing is: I now listen to those spots I did and I embarassed as to how bad I think they sound (it was about 3 years ago). On the other hand, some engineers I've worked with in a post for broadcast environment did check the mix on a set of Auratones. Personally, I just mixed though the Genelecs and paid carefull attention to maintaining mono compatibility for that which needs to be heard. For that matter, anything soley in the rear channels of a Dolby matrix surround mix is not mono compatible.

Don't get the wrong impression with this post. Although I've been lucky enough to work on stuff for broadcast, I am still a nobody engineer and that's not just me being modest. Most of the stuf for broadcast I was involved with was when I had an internship where I was trusted to do more than the average intern.

Perhaps the biggest factor of all is insurance strategy. While offshore, you are not protected for hospital bills without being insured strategy.

Quite possibly the funniest spam disconnect I have seen in these forums.
It's already been reported.

Thanks for that... but one thing to be thankful for is seeing all the great SONARites on this thread that I haven't seen in a while. (Wonder how they're all doing?...)
