Anyone that use Automation in SONAR X1 know that “copy and paste” automation specific values like example a “Cut OFF-filter” with Synth Tacks,  Bus tracks are totally broken.
Works with AUDIO tracks though!

Please fix this ASAP Cakewalk!

1.       Load a Synth, one MIDI one Synth Track
2.       On the Synth Track. Write some automation like example “Cut OFF Filter” or another specific automation values included in that SYNTH with mouse
3.       Select the created automation.
4.       Press COPY  “CTRL +C”
5.       Move the courser to another BAR press PASTE CTRL +V or “Paste Special” CTR+ ALT + V.
6.       As you can see the Automation curve are shown as copied but are not attached to the specific value (CUT OFF) in the synth.
7.       In fact the values are not attached to anything?
8.       In fact as you can see there are no ways to attach the specific copied automation values to any values in the SYNTH from the list. The SYNTH automation values have disappeared and can’t even be selected?
9.       You can only attach the copied curve to PAN or Volume automation?
10.   Same kind of strange behavior happens with BUS automation too.

Expected Results:

That it work and the automation are copied correctly and attached to right values in the specific synth-

               Actual Results:

                Broken Automation

you should also try moving some clips around in your tracks with synth automation.

that's even more fun!

I've opened these a while back, hopefully they get fixed

I also reported this to cakewalk thru their bug reporter.. not fixed as of X1D either :( considering another DAW now.

Good workaround -

Split into midi and synth track - copy the midi clips into the synth track - automate within the clip (adjust clip lengths if needed).

Move those midi clips that are sitting on the synth output track and watch the automation go with them.

Thanks! Yes. That is a good workaround. I thought I had tried a similar approach a few X1 revs ago (synth rack - automation track setting) and it did not work either..maybe not. my bad. but it does work in X1D. Still wish they'd FIX this. Thanks again! CW should pay you - you have helped save the day. Putting the automation on the audio track for the synth is all it takes now.

Cheers! And the mid clip copied onto the synth output track to easily copy and paste it where you want the automation to follow makes it really easy-

Lanceindastudio - not sure I understand. If I insert a synth and turn the knobs with W enabled, the automation data goes into the synth track. Are you talking about doing automation via MIDI? Sorry to be dense here, but what you describe sounds promising...

Anyway, here's my workaround.

1. Create an audio track. Right-click on the FX bin and insert the soft synth.
2. Create a separate MIDI track to drive the soft synth.
3. Any automation you create by moving knobs while W is enabled gets written into the audio track containing the synth, and that data can be copied, pasted, re-assigned, etc.

IOW - if you do "manual" instead of "automatic" insertion, automation in the synth track behaves the way you want it to.

I haven't tried this with all synths, all conditions, etc. so if anyone else has any experience along these lines, chime in.

Hi Anderton.

After you get that automation you want in the separate synth output track, I copy a mid clip onto the syntyh output track (yes a midi clip, usually from the midi track as this is where the automation will actually be), and then, when I take that midi clip that is on the synth output track and copy it to another location on the synth output track, the automation goes with that clip.
The clip serves no purpose being on the synth output track and does not alter the output at all except the service of carrying all automation with it when it is copied and moved elsewhere on the track.

Thank you!
