  • Delighted with MIDI/PRV Changes in X2! Other changes too! (p.2)

Thanks... I haven't put it thru any real work yet, so there may be "issues", but feature-wise, it's much more what I expected X1 to be and remained shocked and pained at it's initial release... Many things improved with the point releases, but these issues were still a pain... No longer!
...These items I've mentioned are such in-your-face items that the relief is astounding!

I agree 100%.  X2 has so many things that may not sound like much on paper but in normal use are just great.

I can't do any real-work testing for another week or so as I'm awaiting my interface and running at 72ms latency with the built-in Realtek chip set is just too un-real!

Uh... yeah, that could be a little difficult.

I did play with the lanes a little and tho I'm definitely not a fan of lane-style work in general, the implementation in X2 might be just the "hybrid" to work for me... But I still would like to have pop-ups of the envelopes names with a mouse-over.... that's still something missing... Time will tell if my opinion and work habits change in this regard... Right now I'm feeling so good about the choices made for X2 that I'm hoping to find lanes a good thing when implemented in this way! ;-) What about you? Have you made the change yet?

I haven't really "switched" to lanes at this point, but I have been using them to see whether they'll work for me in certain cases.  Right now I find them most useful for tracks that have more than 3-4 envelopes or envelopes that occupy a similar space.  Lanes seem to make it much simpler to see what's what and select the right envelope in those scenarios.  As far as mouse-over goes, I'm pretty sure I've seen that...  It's probably a modifier key (Shift, Ctrl or Alt) + Hover to see them.

Now I need to see if I can make use of the little sliders at the end of each lane...

I just mentioned in another thread that one of the features of the new PRV that I absolutely love is the horizontal aim-assist.

It is rather handy. What is cool is its something we as users should have asked for but I for one never thought of it. Clearly CW did realize its usefulness.

I also have to agree with Keni that the PRV is superb. I think at present its the best in the industry.

Have you guys noticed, clicking on a track in track view while working in Piano View, resets the piano view's zoom to minimum and the player to 0. (in piano view)

EDIT: pressing play sets the marker back to the now time, so the reset is a moment's frustration but fixes itself. The zoom issue though remains.

Hi...

Are you using the PRV in the multidock? I haven't noticed such a problem (yet) using the PRV as non-floating, full-screen...

Keni

Hey Keni,

Yea in the multi-dock. It seems you need several MIDI tracks open and try clicking between them a few times until it happens. I tested in floating as well. In X1 this is not an issue.

Yeah... I'm wondering what/how the do/work too! ;-)

I have yet to learn/understand exactly what AIM assist is? Care to chat a bit?

Hi TM...

Probably be a good idea to tell them that along with the Problem Report... It probably has to do with changing window focus issues or some such as I don't experience (not yet?) that using the non-floated/full-screen PRV...

Keni, in the TV Aim Assist is the dashed vertical line that follows your cursor.  It literally "assists your aim" for aligning things that aren't right on top of each other; e.g., the end of one clip with another a few tracks above or below.

That's in the PRV as well, but now there's also the horizontal aim assist which is the light blue band that moves from note to note, helping to see at a glance which note you're about to place/edit.    So the PRV now does this in both directions, almost like a full view cross-hair of sorts.  Just nicer looking.

Indeed, I reported it to them. It could also be with certain VSTi's open, for example I had Kontakt 4 open as the only plugin running.
