First I would like to say I have been a user since the Home Studio days and I love all of Cakewalks products. I recently upgraded from Sonar 8.5 to X2 and love it except for one issue. In Sonar 8.5, it didn't capture midi volume data, and I loved this because I usually let one measure play before I start recording(I don't like the count in feature because it's possible miss something at the beginning of your playing), in Sonar 8.5 it would just capture the note data, but in X2 it captures the volume data and then there is a big gap in the midi clip until I start playing. I then have t truncate the clip and bounce it to a clip because there is a big empty space in the clip. Can someone help me? I don't want it to receive volume messages from midi controller(Fantom-G), because ultimately Sonar will control the volume in the sequencer. I hope this makes sense, and thank you in advance! -B.C.

Hey Robert, thanks for the response. Upon further inspection, it seems as if Cakewalk is sending a volume message with a value of 101, before it goes to the proper level. I don't have a clue why it is doing this. It didn't do it in 8.5. Hope this can be fixed, because it's starting to get annoying.

I figured it out. it turns out that Maschine 1.8 was sending that volume controller message. I had the Enable Midi Out button checked. This is needed to record the midi data from Maschine in Sonar. Once I deleted it from the synth rack, it stopped appearing. After that I inserted a new instance of it, and it was gone. Thanks for your help! Follow me on twitter: @bigchrizzle

By volume data, do you mean the velocity messages from touch-velocity sensitive keys? It sounds like you might have local control on in the Fantom G. The Fantom G is probably as capable as Sonar, if not more so, at sending note data, ie, volume, expression, velocity. If you're sending data from the Fantom G to a soft synth in Sonar, it's highly likely that the Fantom G will change-rule the parameters in the soft synth if you don't limit what messages are sent from the Fantom G. I think you will find that if you set the Fantom G to a set velocity level 0-127 instead of Touch sensitive, you're problem with volume may stabilize.
Try turning off local control on the Fantom G first. I'm sure how extensive the editor is in the Fantom G. Do you have it installed on the computer? <--( software version). If that doesn't do it, set the velocity to a given value. If Sonars velocity is set at 101, set the Fantom G to 101.
