BTW, I went back to PA9 to check and it had no option to save as CWP. I'm sure some "historian" here can comment on what version first used that format but I'm guessing it was Sonar 1.

Right, PA9 did not have that capability. CWP was developed after WRK.

I don't know about 8.53 not being able to open BUNs and WRKs. I just opened an old BUN in X2 last night so I know that works. BUNs are prone to corruption because of their size so that format is not recommended for backup. The current preferred method is to use Per Project Folders which groups the CWP and audio files separately in a folder so that you can back up the folder which is a collection of smaller files.

Thanks for trying that, Dave. Sure, I would never use .bun format today (is it even still an option?) but I have these files and they were useful.

I suppose it's not inconceivable ("Inconceivable!"  "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." - The Princess Bride)  that the copy of the bun file made off the CD on the new DAW got corrupted yet the copies from the same disc to the other two systems didn't. I'll try copying it off again tonight. It does seem odd that loading from a .bun would work in S6, not in S8.53, and work again in X2. (it's inconceivable!)

You're missing the point entirely.
