  • X3d (64-Bit): still problems with some plugins from Waves

When I doubleclick in the effect bin to open the plugins from waves, then Sonar X3(a to d) crashes in 1 of 5 times. This happens with 3 Computers (Windows 8.1 and Windows 7). So this is not a problem with the graphics card or the Computer. This Problem is since VST3 and relates ONLY to Waves (Q10, ZNoise, L3 Ultra Maximizer). Waves V9.0 R2
Also after a few hours the GUI from this plugins are washed unreadable (3 computer !).

Is there any workarund?
Otherwise I have to replace the plugins from Waves and take other.

Please install x3d if you haven't already. reset and rescan your plugins. Please could you be more specific about what a crash means. Have you checked the event viewer.

Waves fixed some Sonar specific issues in the last update. I just opened about 20 instances of each of those plugs with no issues.
I'm at 9.1.0.9 build 1363 (for Q10). I forgot where I can check the WaveShell version but I believe they're at 9.2 R13 at least, so it looks like you are a few versions behind.

Do you have "Hide Related VST2" plugins checked as well as "Migrate VST2 plugins to VST3" ?
Note that Waves VST2 and VST3 plugins cannot be mixed and matched, so make sure that your project does not contain any VST2 versions of waves plugins if you are using their VST3 versions. The crash is most likely due to this since it has the same symptoms.
You can tell if a plugin loaded is VST3 or VST2 by looking at the "VST" button in the effects properties. It will show "VST3" if its a vst3 plugin and "VST2" otherwise.

After you've installed X3d, if you have issues you may go through this procedure and see if it will help.

Waves can be tricky, but from what I have done in X3d so far, I've been able to defy the odds and do many things with Waves plug-ins without a problem. I've been one of the biggest pests between these two companies regarding these crashes etc., but I can say thus far, things seem solid in X3d.

Sidenote: Waves has version 9r14 out now. I highly recommend grabbing that subversion. Even with 9r7, I still had some sneaky issues.

I agree. After I complained in October or so, they mailed me when R14 came out specifically to say it was now stable and supported in Sonar X3c. Haven't had an issue since.

I have all of the waves plugins and have not had any issues recently opening the plugins. The VST2 and VST3 compatibility bit me once. Since then, Waves has been flawless.

The plugins are loaded in X3d, saved in X3d - nevertheless they crash in 1 of 5 times. This is no confusion.

Otherwise I have to replace the plugins and take plugins from an other company.

I would first try downloading the most recent version of the Waves plugins. The version you're running is fairly old.
