I'd like to read some articles/interviews on the work of a reasonably high profile music producer with a reasonably high profile customer. How strict is the control of the producer, what kind of details do they pay attention to etc.
Any hints?
Also, if any of you forumites have such experience, as a fly on the wall or otherwise, I'm interested to hear. This roots from some conversations I've participated concerning the possible sloppiness of the average producers around here. I remember reading about some experiences here on the forum not so long ago.

I've read several biographies about producers. Three favorites come to mind: John Hammond, Todd Rundgren and Joe Meek.
 
Hammond and Rundgren represent opposite ends of the continuum. One famously sat in the back reading the newspaper during sessions, the other came in at night to sing all the backing vocals himself. Meek represents the passionate novice who fearlessly plunges ahead despite having no plan and no expertise, whose output is 90% garbage and 10% pure genius. All three are inspirational role models in their own ways.

Just finished reading "Inside Out" by Nick Mason, and one of the nicest things about that book, is the discussion of "producer" and "leader", and the folks that helped make it so good, and so big!
 
Review as soon as I have the proper words for it, but there are a lot of funny jokes and bits and pieces here and there. AND, I still think that Soft Machine, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix is one of the weirdest and off the wall mixes of any show! I would have to be really stoned to even enjoy that in one swell foop!
