I haven't seen a tablet used in years, and even then it was for CAD vs. a DAW.  I knew quite a few people that really liked them and would avoid using a mouse when possible, but they just never seemed to click for me.    Then again, that was CAD and this isn't...

Karl probably has his zoom levels predefined in Screen Sets.

How did you guess?

I have a "multi-edit" screenset already zoomed in on one track in an almost full screen track view with just the edit filter visible in the track header. At the very bottom is a really small console view with just track name, number, and MSR buttons visible that I use to change the track view focus above it with.

It's a real quick way to work for sure. Have I ever mentioned how much I love screensets?

I love hot keys, but the way I use my Wacom tablet makes some mouse type stuff seem, to me, to be fast, precise, and ergonomically comfortable.

It seems like a lot of people avoid the traditional mouse, and I sometimes wonder if it's because they are not as comfortable, precise, or fast.

I rarely use a regular mouse myself.

all the best,
mike
I'd love to use my Intuos4 in Sonar but the fader/knob jittering makes it unusable and then you have to go back and forth between mouse and tablet, and I LOVE my tablet.

Once you've used a tablet long enough to build up muscle memory you don't have to move a mouse around, you just point and click dead on, it's awesome and so much more presize, but it takes time for muscle memory to develop, so make sure you give it some time before deciding the mouse is better.

btw earlier in the thread you mentioned colorizing the clips in lanes, I'm still new to Sonar and I'd love to know where that option is? Only place I can find colorizing options is in preferences.

Kenneth, you can change a clip's colours in the Inspector.

Thanks, I guess I missed that because I like to separate mixing and tracking completely so I never use the inspector in track view.

If I have mixing options when tracking/composing it's like giving a mirror to a Canary

Hmm, I can't seem to make the color stick for individual clips in the lanes, no matter how I select the color change happens for all lanes.

Mike mentioned that he made the good takes yellow and the ok ones orange and that would be neat, just can't seem to make it work via the track inspector foreground/background options no matter how I select them.

EDIT: Bah, I'm dense today, I had track properties selected in the inspector instead of clips.

Hi Kenneth,
I don't know if it works in X... I went back to 8.5 about a year ago.

In 8.5 you simply right click over the clip and choose a color.

It should work in X as well... I just don't remember the details.

best regards,
mike

It works.

In X series it's a left click with the clip inspector open. I find it better than the "old" way mainly because I find it easier to do multiple clips at once and once the inspector is open it's simply click on clip - change, clip - on clip change, ad infinitum. No need to keep opening the menu as it's already open.

I think of the inspector as a right click menu on steroids only it's accessed via an I keypress rather than a right click. I have mine floating and hidden so it's always a keypress away when needed.

Got it sorted, I just had the track tab selected in the inspector, once I stopped being dense and clicked the clips tab it worked a treat

I have mine hidden and floating to, don't like having it open/docked as I'm only using it for colors, console is for mixing, track view is for composing or I end up messing with all the shiny knobs instead of getting things done
