I completed the installation and everything seems to be working, but when I go to register Rapture in X2 (run as administrator), it doesn't accept the new password because there is no serial number in that field and it never prompted me for the Rapture serial number. I tried reinstalling just Rapture again from the X2 install files and it still didn't prompt me for the serial number. Suggestions?

Quite frankly, I think it was idiotic to make current Dimension Pro and Rapture owners to have to reinstall them. The Dimension Pro install doesn't work either, it tells me I have to download it again, but its allowing me to use the version I already had so that was ok.

Not only that, it takes 20 minutes just to install Rapture by itself because of the way the installation files are so huge. I thought the new CEO said he was going to fix the installation process. Hmmm...

I was happy, now I'm pissed.
Do you recall if you cancelled the Rapture installer? Two solutions to fix it:

1) Re-run the installer and put in your new code

2) Manually enter it in you registry. Be careful if you're new to this! Here's how:

1) Open the Run prompt on your computer by holding down the Windows key and pressing "R"

2) In the Run Prompt, type in the following: regedit

3) Click [OK]. This will open the Windows Registry Editor

4) IMPORTANT: Please make a backup of your Registry by going to File > Export. In the Export menu make sure you have "All" selected and that the "Save As Type" is set to "Registration File (.reg)". If you accidentally delete a reg key, you will need to re-import from this file.

5a) For the 64-bit version of Rapture, navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\rp

5b) For the 32-bit version of SONAR on a 64-bit operating system, navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software\rp

6) Select the "rp" folder on the left and then locate the value in the field on the right for "Serial Number"

7) Right-click over "Serial Number" and select "Modify"

8) Enter your new serial number from your online account and then click [OK]

That should push the serial number into the registration dialog next time you launch Rapture.

If you already had Dim Pro, why did you re install it? It wasn't in the X2 installer for me. Wasn't even a check box? Do we all have the same programs?
You know they said they "fixed" the IE download issue. I got my downloads way before that, had to add the exe, etc. Same files?
Mine was smooth as silk. Just sayin'................and I know Dave knows his stuff.

I just fixed it by finding my old 1.22 dll and moving it to the VST folder and re-scanning. I shouldn't have had to do anything.

The installation routines for DimPro and Rapture or horrible. They should either fix them or retire the products. Z3TA+ seems to go much better.

Also, Cakewalk should give us the option to download ISO images of the DVDs so we can burn our own DVDs. That way if we have to reinstall, its a lot quicker plus it will give us a backup version.

Ryan:
1) I re-ran the installer twice and selected Rapture to be installed and neither time did it prompt me for the serial #. Each attempt took at least 20 minutes.

2) I tried to edit the registry and I didn't find a key for entering the serial number. I'll check to see if the one you gave me is there.

Thanks for the response.

Edit: I navigated to the key you gave and there is no Serial Number field.

Thanks daveny5,

Can you double-check you navigated to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and not HKEY_CURRENT_USER?

I haven't run into this behavior myself, but I'm seeing if I can replicate it.

I know-I was just trying to help Dave but thanks-
Sorry but I had no problem with Rapture at all-so I don't think it should be retired. Installed no problem.

I ended up with two Rapture standalone host shortcuts. The original one "Rapture Microhost" which points to "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Rapture\Rapture.exe" - Running this version prompts for registration, but the serial number box is blank and readonly. A new one "Rapture" which points to "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\Rapture\Rapture.exe" - This version has the new serial number and registration succeeded.

Busted! Yes, I was on HKEY_CURRENT_USER. I found it and changed it. I have it working now. Thanks!

I don't think it should be retired... just fix the installation. I am a little disappointed we didn't get any expansion packs for Rapture. They should at least throw a bone to the people who had already bought Rapture since they're now giving it away as part of Sonar.
