Keep us informed, Gregmang, when you've given it a jolly good workout. I'm interested to see how it performs as a new OS etc is not going to happen for the foreseeable.

XP is completely unsupported with SONAR X2. Future updates of X2 will not even install on XP so its not worth the trouble of installing IMO.

Hmmmm ! Not quite the "there are no specific reasons why it shouldn't work, but XP is no longer part of our official testing matrix and therefore is not officially supported. " answer that was supplied by Brandon when the XP question was asked before !!

The level of access this forum has to you guys is one of the things I think is great about Cakewalk and I would never want that to change, but it's not really helpful when different CW people give differing answers to the same subject.

It would have been nice to know that updates to X2 won't even install on XP prior to having my money taken for X2. If I was feeling slightly more cynical....

My XP on a q6600 has been rock solid for YEARS as its literally never been on the internet.  Its as fast today as the day I installed it.

Exactly my situation. And because of money and the chore of reinstalling everything, I'm not ready to buy a new PC yet. I doubt that my Q6600 would run Win 8.

Since I've just learned that updates to X2 may not run on XP, I guess I'll stay at X1. This is the first time since around 1992 that I haven't bought a Cakewalk update.

Users running Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 will be able to upgrade to Windows 8 Professional for $39.99 via an online download.

Nice price too.

FWIW, I'm successfully running Win7 64 on a Q9300 (Asus P5N-D) with 8GB RAM.  I have a triple boot with WinXP and Vista, but I haven't loaded XP once since installing Win7 and Vista only when I need to run PTLE (and that's been a while).   Based on the performance reports so far for Win8, I don't expect the hardware to be a problem.   It's finding the time to reinstall everything.

For me the reluctance to leave XP is the cost of replacing external gear that has no driver support past XP, much of that gear is Roland. With the release of Win 8 I waiting to see what extra gear gets added to the no driver support list. :(
