Any suggestions for vsto's with good lead sounds for jazz/rock fusion.

This is something I really like (At about 2'57"): http://www.youtube.com/wa...Mt8A&feature=share

I use MinimoogVA.

But that was before I listened to the clip. Holdsworth used SynthAxe with a wind controller to drive Oberheim Matrix-12s, I think, for that album. You're looking for a synthesized wind instrument - Saxophone or clarinet most likely, but you don't want sample based because you want to keep the synth-y timbre.

Interesting. I'll do some research.

Thanks Fog. I will try that.

Stckman393, thank you. Let me know if you find anything interesting.

Check this out to see the master in action:

Sounds like that exact same patch.

The trick here is that he is using the breath controller to add expression - changing the timbre? Filter? - of the notes. You could use a foot controller (or breath controller) to do the same thing.

This patch sounds a little bit like a grand piano patch, with the attack removed, and with some distortion. It's probably something completely different.

Minimonstah by Gforce is great.

Arturias Analog factory/Experience has some fantastic fusion lead sounds (it has thousands of presets, take from their entire soft synth line, amazing value).

lots of free synths I love minogue VA for a free synth. Monofury Prodigius ODsay and OR2v by elektrostudio, the free tubeohm synths as well as Uhe Zebralette, tyrell and triple cheese and there are the Computer magazines magware synths as well available for download after you buy a copy and its a lot cheaper to buy the mag at zinio.com something like $5.00 is all and they have zebracm, Rhinocm, dunecm, (dune be is better) Xils lab poly kb cm, Alchemy player CM and lots more stuff. As far as lead tones go you need to get Z3ta as well.

after listening to that I would get OPX pro II or try the demo and then the player if your not a programmer and just want the presets its cheaper like $40 and you can load any preset created with the program. It's based on Oberheim sounds. Plex is a free synth that has a lot to offer and might come close to that sound. Solcito Emultuition is another free one that might have some horn type tonalities in it and I think I recall some in fluid at plugin index from tube ohm. It's free now. layer these with an opx player might sound good if your can use a controller to mix the 2 sounds from real to synthy and morph them.
