vs,

and a midi controller.

It's nice, but at almost 3 grand, I'll stick w/NI.

I have to say... I'm really liking NI's Vintage Organs.    But if I had the cash?  Sure, the feel and real-time control would be great.

I think your statement says it all Steve. Some one who has had a real Hammond C3 and Leslie and who's main instrument is a Hammond organ will never be satisfied with a plug in and midi controller.  I've recorded my buddy's original C3 and Leslie and it is an amazing instrument.
There are things that Hammond players do on the fly such as changing drawbar settings, switching Leslie speeds and using a keyboard that has been designed with the same feel as the real thing. In a live situation this keyboard would also be perfect.

I agree that the price is prohibitive but from what my buddy had to say about it was that you do get a massive amount of customisation. There are also some pretty good piano and clavi sounds in it as well.

I would dearly love to have this in my studio permanently but as I said I only had it on loan.

Cheers,

Peter.

Yup, that's a big ole +1.

I've played a few different "real" organs over the years (including Hammonds), and more than the sound alone it's the combination of everything that makes the difference IMHO.  And a Leslie throwing sound around the room doesn't hurt either.   And of course, the smell of bar soaked wood can also have an effect.

2B or not to B3?  Definitely yes! He grooves on every instrument. I've got a friend who has pretty much the same skill set and it makes me sick.  The organ sounded very, very good (I play two different vintage Hammonds at church) but it may be a bit too clean and hi-fi.  Definitely superior to my Nord Electro 2.  Is there any way to grunge the sound up a bit?

I used to be a big fan of Jimmy Smith, and this harkens back to those days when he could make a Hammond talk.  Then I joined a band with a C3, and after moving that baby for a year, I left for an all guitar group.  This particular organ sounds like the original, and the playing is terrific.  Nice video and nice demo!

Thanks for the comments guys,
Lynn you hit the nail on the head. Dave was trying to get that Jimmy Smith vibe and if you picked that up I reckon he was pretty successful.

I've also had the experience of carrying a C3 around. It's not something you want to do often.

Cheers,

Peter.
