Just downloaded the free Kontakt Player which used to work fine on my old XP PC with Magix Music Studio but it caused the sound to become inaudible in Sonar LE and everything else - eg You Tube. Anyone have the same problem? - Sonar did come up with error messages when I opened a file with Kontakt loaded in it. I restarted the PC but to no avail. I did a system restore to before the Kontakt install and things are ok now. I'm running Win7 with ASIO4All drivers & onboard sound chip Shame as I like the free instruments with Kontakt Player!

And I see you have no reply from these people! I have been with Cakewalk from the Pro Audio days but I left last year as support is crap!

These people dont mind if we go out and buy a plugin, In my case Garritan Jazz Band! Only to find that Sonar X1 cannot cope with it! My machine is very Hi Spec i7 - !6G ram!

Sonar always seem to play a virtual synth first time out then once you pause it, it wont play sound again!

Me Im happy with Reason 6.5 these days! Never crashes! So easy to use and results in half the time! Even more important! Propheads answer their customers emails and forum posts! Not like here hey!

SONAR never crashes on my machine.
Any soft synth I open works.
Cakewalk Support was very helpful the 1 time I had to call them (10 years ago!).
The members of this user forum have been very helpful when I had a question and I have also learned a lot by reading about the problems others have had, and how those problems were solved.
But I don't have Kontact and can't address the OPs problem. I'm sorry no one else has, JoeG. Did you ever fix it?

Oh Eddie....

JoeG:
You haven't given any info required for a proper answer. Maybe that's why your question has been forgotten. It happens sometimes, unfortunately.

What was the error message? You say it used to work in your old PC. What's different with your new one?
Is there maybe 32/64 bit incompatibility? I don't have KPlayer so I don't know if there are both versions.
One thing with all commercial NI products  that have both standalone and VST function is (at least used to be) that you have to run them as standalone first. However, I don't know if KPlayer has standalone mode.

Hi Sorry guys, I had just wasted about 5 hours and $150 so I was feeling a bit hot headed! Still not working
I have Sonar X1 32 bit - build 184 and am trying to use Kontact 2 player with Garritan Jazz band KP2

The problem is that I load Kontact 2 in an audio track like I do any other soft synth and the assign a midi track to the synth.

I load a patch and it plays perfect UNTIL I stop the sequencer then try and play again and all output of the Kontact player is lost! The midi indicators are active. If I load another sound into Kontact it will play until I stop and restart and it goes silent again! Its all very annoying and time wasting! I've lost all my hair!

Dear Cakewalk

I am so so sorry! I was about to give up! I reached for my cup of coffee and knocked the mod wheel on my keyboard and it all came to life!
X1 was not the problem! For some stupid reason Kontact needs a CC1 command to kick it to life??? Yeah Stupid crappy plugin!
Shame I have a ton of sample libraries on NI format or else I'd demote it to the recycle bin!

Tx for not shouting at me guys but Im sure you can appreciate Id rather be making music than searching through every menu looking for the ignition key to start something up!!!

Have you tried using KPlayer like soft synths "normally" are used: using synth rack?
Also, did you read my post above? Is there a standalone mode for KPlayer?

I'm not at all sure if LE has it, but in other versions there's a setting called something like "Zero controllers on stop". I wonder if it's possible that it has something to do with this.

And an important thing: Have you checked  which settings, if any, change when you press Stop?
Is the MIDI channel , track ins and outs, everything, what it should be? The levels?

From the X1 user manual..

To add a soft synth to the audio and synth tracks’ Input menus (drop-downs) and the MIDI tracks’ Output menus, you have to insert each soft synth that you want to use into each project. There are two basic ways to insert soft synths in SONAR:
1.
You can insert soft synths from the Browser’s Synth tab or with the Insert > Soft Synths command. If you use this method, you can choose to have SONAR create the necessary synth and MIDI tracks, and patch them together correctly. If you want to use multiple synth tracks to take advantage of SONAR’s support for the multi-output soft synth format, you need to create and patch additional MIDI tracks manually to feed the additional synth tracks.

2.
You can insert soft synths into effects bins of individual audio tracks. If you use this method, you need to set a MIDI track’s Output field to the name of the soft synth you inserted. Then you can record MIDI data in the MIDI track to play the soft synth with.

The only thing that changes is the ModUhl knob which is controlling the volume, it automatically resets to zero on stop! (That's why no sound)
My workaround for now is to add a CC1 (127) at the beginning of the events list... This works well.

I will look around for what is forcing a zero on stop!

Thanks for the advice :)

Thanks mate!

Now to make music!!!

Hi all - thanks for the responses - I have been on holiday hence delayed reply - I'll have a look at the suggestions made when I have a chance and let you know.

To answer two specific questions

My system is Win 7 64bit, onboard sound, 8Gb RAM i5 processor
KP does have a standalone mode - can't remember if I used this first when I tried it

I uninstalled KP did a system restore to pre installation and things are ok again now. I'll try reinstalling though as I do like the Uillean Pipes preset in KP and may want to use another Kontakt package in the future!

Thanks again for the responses and I will let you know how I get on - will be a while though as I am currently spending most of my spare time watching video streams from Shrewsbury Folk Festival where I was last weekend!
