  • X2 Producer Unusable For "Me"

X2 Producer is unusable for me. The kind of crashes I’m getting, and others are reporting should not be happening with a minor upgrade like this when you consider that X1 was a Major Overhaul upgrade. I was forgiving because it was such a huge overhaul, but this falls into the, "Fool me once, Fool me twice" category.

Does Cakewalk Beta test their software or are we the beta testers? I don't like paying $99 to beta test software.

I've watched the Sonar X2 Videos, How did you guys get it to run without crashing live?

Most of the crashes are ProChannel related. Oh well, back to X1 for now.

this post is very vaugue, theres no explaination of the crashes, just "what others are experiencing" ??
and pro channel related. ?

doesnt sound like you want help with this issue, because if you did you would spend a second to go into a little more detail and explain what is exactly going on.
not to mention you didnt even say what kind of interface your using.

im not sure what these so called "others" are experiencing but i can tell you this.
i havent had a crash yet and ive put this under hours of use.
projects filling the pro channels with effects.
one project had 27 tracks, pro channel on every one.

im not doubting you may have some problems but how do you start a thread with a title like this?
are you purposly trying to be detremental to cakewalk?

ive seen the techs in the forum asking questions, helping with any inquiries, caring.
this isnt right man.
you should really change this threads title.

Hi,yeah I have had some weird"out of nowhere"crashes too,but since installing the "new patch" it has stopped happening[so far],even though the"issues the patch was pertaining to",were NOT what was happening to me,but after the patch, again no crashes yet.

I have a feeling some of my crashes were directly related to Waves plugins, but 1 crash, happened, just from saving, but that was once only.

I have to admit,I was pretty angry,when I lost about 4 hours of editing work,as I didn't "save",but now I'm pressing save after every change ATM,and since then,no crashes[very classic luck situation-don't save-lose everything,now I'm saving-no crashes,it'd almost be funny,if I didn't lose so much work]

I have also experienced a lot of instability with X2 so far - however my caveat is it seems to happen more often with X1 projects. Thankfully Cakewalk have a great track record of fixing bugs quickly and listening to its users. I'm sure X2 will be no different - it will just take a wee bit of time to work its way through the SDLC

I too had same problems. However, I did the following...

Turn off wifi.
Chkdsk
Defrag hard disks.
Install new patch.
Use basic graphics settings.
Clear out some old plugins.
Disable all non critical processes.
Overclokced the processors.

I think the patch fixed mine, as I thought I had installed it, but hadnt. I kept getting crashes. Once the patch was installed and overclokced I have had no more crashes..... Touchwood.

Quite right though as it is v annoying. You would think that testing would include running on various setups with various plugins. Basic testing approach. It is unacceptable to release it with these basic problems. It certainly has put me off buying any future releases or any Roland gear for that matter. It shouldn't be a matter of explaining everything in great detail on forums or filling in forms and reports if its buggered.

That said, when it runs, x2 is a great improvement and kinda what I have been waiting for , so do keep with it. It is worth it and gets rid of a lot of the long winded editing / mixing that drove a few of us mad.

The trouble is, there are literally millions of different possible combinations of CPU, Motherboard, RAM, Hard Drives, settings, plugins etc.

It is totally impractical to test all but a very small percentage of these.

From what I've read over the last couple of weeks, the proportion of users experiencing zero problems FAR outweigh those that do.

And add to that the fact that peoples knowledge of the software is a little bit lacking at times... Understandably so, with the size of program we're dealing with here :-)

As one of the video authors you mention, I've found X2 almost as stable as X1. I say almost as X1 hardly if ever, crashed in the 18 months or so I was using it. While making the videos Camtasia 8 had far more crashes than X2 ever did. I was wondering at one point which piece of software was pre-release and which one had been released.

X2 crashes occasionally while I'm browsing loops etc. or more correctly while I'm previewing them. I can't seem to pin down any particular reason. Sometimes it's fine other times it isn't.

It might be because I've changed my preview buss direct to one of my interface outs since using X2. I have no inclination to go back to X1 to find out and seeing as I rarely use loops I can live with the odd one here & there, although of course none would be nice.

FBB- I too experience problems when I "preview" a lot of loops... Usually I get an "Out of Memory" error, which I believe somehow relates to the Picture Cache. Sometimes when I clear out this folder, I can listen to many more loops, but at other times it has little effect. And yet other times, my X2 might just "white out". So I'm still stumped on this one.

But with the new patch, making some performance tweaks, and changing my workflow up a bit (having to freeze most tracks after I get so far), the white-outs and crashes have been minimized. I also believe my system could be considered the bare minimum to run X2 these days.

Alas, I feel a system upgrade coming on.......
