  • X2 crash when moving effect from a bus effect bin to a track effect bin

I moved and effect in bus effect bin to a track effect bin then Sonar gradually crashed. I was able to save the project before Sonar completely crashed. I reproduced this bug again.

A minidump was produced and included in my Problem reporter to Cakewalk.

SONAR X2 Producer QuickFix (Build 308) installed.

Interesting. I'll try this myself (I have Build 308 also).

What do you mean by "gradually crashed?"

And did you move the effect from the Bus effects bin to the Track effects bin while the project was playing, or was it currently stopped?

And which effect was it exactly?

I tried this with Sonitus Reverb, moving it back and forth between bus and track effects bins, while the project was playing. Quite a large project with over twenty soft synths running and a pile of ProChannel modules running too.

I couldn't get X2 to crash.

So I then tried the same with Guitar Rig 5. Again, I couldn't get X2 to crash, and I went back and forth, track to track, track to bus, bus to track, for quite a bit.

I then inserted an instance of R-Mix to a bus effects bin. Moved it to a track effects bin and back to a bus. I think it was when I did another move that X2 crashed, and the fault reporter came up, which I duly sent off.

I'll test some more...

Oh, this is the dump that W7 produced:-

Try moving effects using the inspector

aries, which effect are you using to get this crash?

And what is the difference when using Inspector? Does it crash more or does it not crash at all.

Please explain.

Did you read my second post fully?

I was using Sonitus Reverb when transfering effect from bus effect bin to inspector effect bin on my second crash. My first crash was with Earverb doing the same.

I transfered Sonitus Reverb back and forth from track effect bin to bus effect bin with not crashes. It was when I transfered Sonitus Reverb from bus effect bin to inspector bin, I got the crash.

You have managed to get a crash with an effect from track effect bin to bus effect bin which I have not so far. Then again I have not tried transfering R-Mix.

Transfers using the inspector produced my only crashes so far.

Okay :)

I've just spent the last fifteen minutes moving Sonitus Reverb backwards and forwards between various track and bus bins using Consol View, Track View and Inspector while me project is playing and so far X2 has not stumbled once.

I haven't got Earverb so I can't try that. So I tried using Breverb instead, and I still couldn't get my project to crash.

So up to now it is only R-Mix that crashes my project.

We will have to wait and see what Cakewalk come up with. I'm in no particular rush as I've yet to work out how to use R-Mix in a project and even when I do I doubt that I would be moving my effects around as much as I had to to force a crash.

cheers

Yeah there's definitely something in the effects bin that's screwy. I just reported something similar to this and supplied the mini dump as well. Sometimes just deleting something in the bin causes Sonar to crash. Last night I was testing out a bunch of guitar sims. They weren't all on at the same time of course....but I was doing a process of elimination and while I was deleting the ones I didn't want, Sonar crashed without audio even playing. You get this half faded, white screen...then it either shuts down or by luck of the draw, it gave me a mini dump this time.

Guys, as a side note...that problem reporter thing really works. Don't ever click "Cancel" when that comes up. I've actually made some of my "baker" connections due to using that thing. :) They may not always get back to you on an issue sent in that way, but trust me...they are looking into it and may just fix it in a patch. At least that's how it was explained to me. :) I have belief that they will fix all these issues. To me this is still leaps and bounds ahead of where X1 was at this time. Some guys weren't even able to use X1 until the c patch. I'm not discrediting anyone that is having major issues...those things can bring you down for sure. But for my use of the program, it's been quite painless with the occassional anomaly.

+1 to that Danny, I aways send my fault reports of and give as much info as I can regarding what I was doing just before the crash. It is one of the main ways that Sonar are able to look into these problems and provide a solution.
