..and will only quit after hitting the run/stop audio engine button. So I'm playing a project and watching the CPU meters and I hit stop in the transport. The song stops, the sound stops, but the CPU meter keeps moving as if the song were still playing. I can only get the CPU meter to stop by clicking the run/stop audio engine button. Is there a setting to change this behavior? I'd like the audio engine to stop when the song stops. (Even though I guess there's no real harm in letting it run, it just bugs me)

That's normal operation. But, I think there may be a setting in the aud.ini file to disable it, IIRC. But it does no harm and if your system is working, why mess with it?

Thanks CJ, Couldn't remember if this was expected behavior or not. I probably just never noticed it before. Like you say probably no harm done. Perhaps someone else can remember a setting? Thanks again.

Hi Larry

Turning off Prefs-->Audio-->Playback & Recording-->"Play effect tails after stopping" will usually stop the audio engine after playback.

There are a couple of side effects though. First you'll then  hear any tails still in the buffer when you next start playback and you won't be able to play soft synths with no playback without manually turning the engine on.
