I presume in Windows 7 Control Panel - Hardware & Sound - Sound you have VRM Box set as the playback device?

Thank you for replies!  I'm using it only for headphone output.  USB port was recognized, and it seems that driver was installed, but no audio from headphone output.  I didn't even get to DAW, just want for it to work in basic Windows environment :(  Is there a setup to enable a path of USB->headphone output?  Thanks!

ULTRABRA - I'm glad to hear you got the VRM box running happily in your set up.  The USB bus on i series chipset motherboards can be a bit finicky once the USB 1.1 device count starts to stack up.  This would probably be what you were experiencing.

Unfoutunately things ae not yet running smoothly with my VRM Box.   I noticed I can only get sound through the VRM Box when my soundcard's   Master Clock source is set to "internal" (and not S/PDIF).   This causes occasional clicks in the audio.    When I change the clock source to S/PDIF I get no sound at all.

I get sound out of my VRM box via my M-Audio Fast Track S/PDIF, whether the clock source is set to internal or S/PDIF. It doesn't seem to make any difference and I don't get any audio clicks either way.

Have you tried connecting the VRM via USB and bypassing your interface? At least if you still hear the audio clicks, you know it's a problem with your VRM box and nothing to do with S/PDIF or clock sources.

Yes, I can hear sound when I hook up headphones directly to the VRM Box, take away the S/PDIF cable, and set the VRM Box as playback in Windows 7.

I find the sound coming that way a little lower in quality - I suppose that is to be expected?   I think the sound quality even when it was working via S/PDIF was not that great - the sound to my headphones direct from my Ultralite sounded much better - or maybe I'm just used to that sound ... ??

Mine either had no sound or sound with a dreadful hum.  I could not get it to work at all so I sent it back to Sweetwater (this was last year).  Got the Focusrite Pro24 DSP with VRM and it worked fine.  That little VRM box is sketchy on some systems.

I have a similar problem.  All the meters look good and the project is playing but no sound form VRM.  Whether hooking up via S/PDIF or using it directly as the X1 interface I'm getting no sound.  When I connect to my laptop it works fine.  I've re-installed the drives but that didn't help.  I guess I'll put a support ticket into Focusrite when I get some time.

Ultrabra- Unless you are clocking to a 3rd device that is feeding clock signal to the MOTU, you will need to have your Ultralite set to clock internally.  Setting it to SPDIF will make it clock to the incoming clock on your SPDIF inputs.  If you do not have a device sending SPDIF in, the sound card will not have a clock source and you will not get playback.  In regards to the clicks and pops, make sure that you are using a proper 75 ohm SPDIF cable as opposed to a run of the mill analog RCA audio cable.  Also, check your DPC latency to make sure that the clicks and pops aren't DPC spikes.  Here is a useful tool for checking DPC latency:

VintageVibe- definitely submit a ticket to Focusrite support so that we can get you up and running.

Actually, the title Snake gets passed down in the family, so you can call me Snake.  I bet you thought I was dead.
