Mark Knopfler talks about - and plays - the most significant guitars in his life (including the iconic National resonator on the cover of
Brothers in Arms). Guaranteed to bring on a GAS attack for guitar lovers. The interviewer is John Illseley, longtime pal of Mark's and co-founder (along with Mark's brother David, who was John's roommate) of Dire Straits.
It's also a bit of a history of Dire Straits. At around the 20-minute mark you can hear the original demo of
Sultans of Swing, which sounds remarkably like the released version. Knopfler's post-Dire career isn't covered much, but I guess by then his guitar collection was nearly complete. BTW, the luthier shown at the end is quite famous; the waiting list to buy one of his custom-made guitars (assuming you can afford one) can be as long as 10 years.
