Another long-time Pantheon fan here...  though I always used the surround version since it's not as "in our face" and seems to be blend better, even with the same general settings.

Different strokes for different folks!  I love Pantheon... it IS lush!  I used it VERY successfully on a live session with a clarinetist, and have also used it on vocals, strings, pads, piano, acoustic guitars, and drums.  I didn't use it for a very long time, but after I spent a little time tweaking it, I discovered just how rich it can sound.
I think all the reverbs mentioned so far in this post all have a place in our consoles...just depends on the application, instrument, or whatever "sounds good".  "Sounds good" is so subjective, isn't it?

Always been puzzled by all the love the Pathenon gets. I could never make it even remotely usable (unlike Sonitus Reverb, which I still use sometimes, even with all my $$$ of verb plugs).

Grainy, tinny and weird are words I would use to describe the core sound quality of the Panthenon.

But a lot of people I have great respect for have made it work for them so go figure!!

Sven I spent quite a bit of time feeling the same as you. I've only recently come back to see if I missed anything and am finding I do like it now for some things. I think part of the key for me is using it with Console Emulation. Without Console Emulation it can sound a little digital, but the combination is proving more successful to me. That said, I've only scratched the surface, as I'm really only using it when I want high end shimmer and motion.

Peace,

Tunes

I used to love pantheon for the more extreme fx in conjuntion with chopping and delay effects,It used to really pull it all together in a lush way compared to my other reverbs.

Wow, I wouldn't have thought that the subtle Console Emulation would have such an effect, but if it works for you it's all good. I don't think I'll be coming around to digging up my old SONAR discs to find out, though.
Have you tried Valhalla Room yet? For real audible effect reverb I haven't heard anything like it, except perhaps Aether but that's much more expensive. Valhalla is no good for rooms (in spite of its name) or subtle ambiences, but for lush verbscapes, it rules supreme!

Personally I never cared for the Pantheon / Lexicon sound for the same reason you list - it sounds metallic even with careful settings. I used to have TC Electronic hardware reverb that was beautiful and versatile, but I have found that Sonitus and Perfect Space are adequate replacements. Too many of the same type of effect is a diminishing return to me. I think Cakewalk has gone crazy with add on effects and I personally have no interest in Broverb, especially if it sounds like Pantheon. My suggestion is to find a couple reverbs you like and stick with those rather than having too many - but do what works for you in the end.

It doesn't, though. Not at all!

The Breverb included with X2 has airy halls, convincing rooms and dense plates. None of which can be found in Pantheon (IMO).

Haven't tried Valhalla yet. So far I've found the UAD collection I have so far has gotten me most of what I look for in reverbs (EMT 140, EMT 250, Dreamverb, Realverb Pro.)

I'll have to check out Valhalla, though. I hear nothing but amazing things.

Peace,

I have all of those and they're all amazing (The venerable Realverb Pro is still my goto verb for rooms)

But Valhalla still has something that none of them can match. And that is that whole lush, big blanket of reverb that's more complex than a plate, denser than a classic digital unit and more out-of-this world than space simulators.

You should also check out Aether. It can do all of those things and more...
