  • Has the Sonar X series had this affect on anyone else? (p.3)

No doubt that the skylight interface was a breakthrough for me... Sonar itself is increasingly getting out of my way..and that is a good thing.

I have 2 * 24" monitors on the main desk..one is Sonar and one is for instruments...  additionally at a side station I have a Fantom G and Nova and a third monitor sits over that setup.... so its easy to throw sonar off to the side and work from that synthstation

Surely those distances are all relative though?..... i.e. If distance from ear to speaker is 3' distance between speakers will be smaller than if distance from ear to speaker is 5'

I can fit the two monitors (screens) I have just bought comfortably between my speakers while still maintaining a quite reasonable speaker to ear angle and distance. They are 'only' 22" monitors though (screens)

I have a 22" screen and a 19" (or 20", I don't actually know how big it is) screen.

Having two displays was to me a neccesity prior to X1. Now I consider it more of a luxury. I find that I can work more efficiently with X1/2 on a lap top but I still like that little extra real estate on my 19" when I'm working at my main DAW. I have set up my screensets so that the extra screen shows the browser, video view, buses on the console etc. and I float the VST gui's there. It's luxury I tell ya, luxury!

I didn't see any distances on that diagram, but yes, of course they are relative. There's only 180* in a triangle.

The sweet spot is where it's at.

Of course if you have a lot of reflective surfaces stuck up next to the speakers you'll hear a lot more than the speakers.

Hey, it's your sound.

:-)

I've been enjoying a single display and the best sound I can have.

mike

I know there wasn't any distances on the original diagram but you seemed to be using that to demonstrate that there wasn't enough room for screens to fit between speakers not in front of them when I asked the original question, hence the question about distances.

I'll leave you to enjoy a single monitor and the best sound you can have while I carry on enjoying dual monitors and the best sound that I can have....

Thanks.

When I see photos of some of the setups posted here and on Youtube I imagine people sitting in the sweet spot and mixing with their very, very, very long arms.

since the distances are relative, all you have to do is back up while listening critically if your monitors are more than 3' apart.

My two monitors are further back than my speakers, and hence not in between me and the sound source. Crazy, radical stuff, I know.

I also use Beagle's madcap method of moving my head occasionally according to what I need to do. I can see he's a maverick like me.

I am 4ft from speaker L, 4ft from speaker R, so 4ft between speakers... 2 * 24" monitor =44" width..  so defining sweetspot does not preclude 2 monitors :)
