  • Has the Sonar X series had this affect on anyone else? (p.4)

Karl, I've had similar thoughts too. I've had a dual-monitor setup for many years, probably since before Sonar 5 and thought I'd never look back. Nowadays I have three 21" monitors but had considered swapping them for a single larger monitor (24" perhaps) because of the multidock, and to get a higher resolution. I do like having the console view permanently displayed on the second monitor though so not certain about this one yet.

I know it might seem like heresy to the OP () but, although I've tried, I just can't seem to get on with screensets; it may be down to the stuff I record more than anything though.

I use two monitors - my 24" is between my speakers, and I have a 22" balanced precariously (and secured with Blutak) on top of my my adjacent hifi speakers.

I basically only have the 24" monitor on for tracking and comping, and use them both for MIDI stuff (with the PRV open on the 22") and for mixing (with the TV and the CV open).

I'm still using my 2 22" monitors here..side by side...with speakers forward...that way nothing bouncing off other stuff....

The Maillard Reaction

"I am 4ft from speaker L, 4ft from speaker R, so 4ft between speakers... 2 * 24" monitor =44" width..  so defining sweetspot does not preclude 2 monitors :)"

No, it doesn't but it does add a big 44" reflective surface right in the middle where it mucks up your sound.

I'm also guessing that your speaker cones, are closer to 60", center to center, apart.

If you go too wide you loose the center focus... the important part... and you have to imagine it.

If you have a big panel of *reflector* in between the speakers... you are not just listening to your speakers... you're listening to comb filtered mush.

Heck there may not even be a sweet spot. ;-)

I've always thought that setting a room up to sound good is a good priority.

That's why I retired my second DAW monitor right after I tried working with one.

I have a couple multi monitor video and graphics set ups but I go single monitor for sound cause the sound is the most important part about sound.

I've mentioned this a few times here at the forum...  but many people seem to have differing priorities.

best regards,
mike

My main display is 29" so it works great with X1/X2. A 2nd one above it handles the Lynx mixer and some other small things/

I still use two monitors. And I don't see why everyone else doesn't either.

I take the multi dock and put it on the second monitor and put all vst's,vsti's, PRV on that. There, everything out the way and still easy to get to. (Can we get customized grouping on the tabs in the multi-dock? The ability to re-arrange the tabs would be good! Screen sets for the multi-dock!)

I find that I am using screen sets more, and when I do it's mostly for one monitor. But I always have my #1 screen set setup with my multi-dock on the second monitor. I mean that's why I bought into X1! It was due to the multi-dock!! Everything else was "Eh, we'll see"

I would use the TV more but have't figured out how to get PRV to be big enough. I have seen pics of people using PRV in TV with Big notes. IOW, they have just the part of the midi they are working on in focus. And I'm not talking about the Magnifier.

And did anyone notice that when you have two monitors and use 'Full Screen" on X2 it fills the second screen too!! Sweet! I want to see if I can make that into a screen set.

computer monitors should not be in front of the plane of the near fields or you will get comb filtering as Mike suggests.

but it's pretty presumptuous to think that's what we all do or that our priorities are not for the sound.

I have 2 - 24" monitors between my speakers, but behind them in the plane of that triangle diagram.  I know where my sweet spot is because I have small mirrors (2" diagonal) mounted on my speakers.  when I can see my eyes in both mirrors, I'm in the right place for listening.

IF I need to edit WHILE listening, I have a wireless keyboard with me.  Long arms are not required.

Grem, I can't think off the top of my head (too many prescribed tablets clouding my mind, but that's another story for another forum) whether the PRV has its own zoom or whether it shares the one with the track view, but either way bottom right-hand corner there are click-and-draggable horizontal & vertical zoom buttons. You'll then need to scroll the PRV into place to see what you want.

And I'm a big fan of the full-screen mode too. I'm sure it must be able to be stored in a screen set, as if you enable it and then invoke a set that's programmed without it, it will change to that mode.

Actually, Beagle, he's got me bang to rights. My priorities are porn on one monitor, World of Warcraft on the other, and the speakers wherever they'll go after that. The genius idea of not putting things in between the speaker and my ear had literally never occurred to me until Mike proved on the internet that he's smarter than the rest of us.
