  • Has the Sonar X series had this affect on anyone else? (p.6)

Er.... yeah I take all I said about one monitor back.

Wow is all I can say. I've just installed the two screens and apart from not being able to see my speakers that are now behind them I 've just opened my track screenset on a project I'm currently mixing and in the CV I can see 37 wide strips and a good 90 or so bars in my timeline that runs along the top. I realise the timeline bit depends on the zoom factor but it's easy enough to pick out each bar and more importantly see plenty of markers. How have I ever managed with the mish mash I had before?

Mix sounds a bit muddy though....

How did a genuine question on here about the X series reducing the number of screen monitors needed degenerate into it being pointed out that the screens shouldn't be placed in front of the speakers?

Oh yeah I remember......

I'm not worried anyway my speakers are in the screens, I've got four of  'em. (Speakers that is)

Wait a second you mean I can't have my monitors behind my monitors? What if I put my monitors in front of my monitors? Would that be OK? I know I'll just use ear buds. Are there any eye buds? I know I'll stack my monitors on top of one another with the monitors in between the two monitors or vice versa.

One thing...what if one interleave the the monitors would that cause all kinds of gaussing?

It's good to have something to hide those messy looking speakers behind.

Man they are such an eyesore.

2+ will always be an option for me, as I use mainly loops / instrument vsts AND rewire with reason.. one screen (when I use the laptop) although useable.. spend time switching between things.

I have always used 2 monitors and still do - I tend to really prefer using the console view for almost everything, while using the track view for editing and not much else.

I've always preferred to have 1 screen dedicated to the console view and 1 screen dedicated to track view.

Personally, I've found the multidock and skylight interface a bit challenging / frustrating, likely because I haven't taken the time to get used to any benefits it may derive, but I always found the console & track views each on one screen as most comfortable for me.

Here is my new clutter free super wide look. Please ignore the Behringer monitors either side of the screens, they are for affect only. My actual monitors are tucked behind the screens.

I currently have (or did have when my studio was still in use) 2 x 24" monitors but am looking at 2 x 27" so that I can put them further away from me making sure they are plenty far behind the speaker field. ie behind the triangle used in finding the sweet spot.
Before I commit to that however I'm going to experiment using my 42" LED TV which works on a pixel by pixel basis with a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Any thoughts!

I have two either 22 or 24" monitors not sure which side by side.  I would miss the second monitor if I didn't have it.
My method of working usually involves main mix on the left either console view or tracks view. The right monitor is used mainly for selecting from the browser midi editing plug in adjustment...that kind of thing. When I decide to undock something I move it to the right monitor.

If I only had one monitor it would take more time to go between windows. I suppose I could shrink and resize. For me the size of the 24" is about right. My desk moves in the middle so I can put them right where I want them.

take care of the pixel pitch on the 27" screens.. i think its smaller than the 24".. iirc a 1920*1200 24" has same pixel pitch as 30"..

umm, so why not make room for 2*42" and toss the glasses away?

The X2 interface is HUGE for me. Until now, I spent a LOT of time thinking "I really need another monitor..." but couldn't justify the cost just to move some windows out of the way. The very first time I launched X1 I realized I wouldn't need another monitor after all! And with Auto Track Zoom and Timeline Zoom in X2 it's gotten even better. I certainly wouldn't mind a 32" beauty on my desktop, but that's just because my eyes are not what they use to be.

Best,
Rob
