• SONAR
  • Sonar X2 / Kontakt 5.03 - No sound after play [Solved]

Can anyone else confirm this? With Sonar X1 Producer Expanded (last updated version) and the new Kontakt 5.03, patches load and will play via midi right after loading. If I hit the "Play" button in the sequencer, or the spacebar, and then stop the transport, I can still play the patches via the midi controller or Kontakt virtual keyboard or piano roll view.

With Sonar X2, patches play in Kontakt right after loading, but if I hit "Play" or press the spacebar, and then stop the transport (or even if the transport stops by itself), I can then no longer get any sound out of Kontakt by any means whatsoever. The only solution is to close the patch and reload (but the same thing happens again). Tried various commercial licensed patches. Tried on a pre-X2 project file, and tried on a newly created X2 file.

Windows 7 64bit (latest updates)
Sonar X2 64bit
Kontakt 5.03 VSTi 64bit (up-to-date)

I'm inclined to think it's either a setting I've missed in Sonar X2, or a bug in X2.

Can someone else give this a try?

Thanks.

Heh, now you've made me nervous.
I'm currently mixing a project in X2 that was started with X1 which has multiple instances of Kontakt 5 and I was going to reply that all was fine....

Then I remembered that all of them were frozen so now I'll be on pins and needles until I can get home tonight and check it out.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi Kev,

Just gave this a try... and can't reproduce the problem.
  • Win7x64
  • Sonar X2 x64
  • Kontakt 5.03 x64

-Open a new project
-Load Kontakt 5.03 into the Synth Rack
-Load the Vienna Concert Grand into Kontakt
-Record MIDI performance data
-Start the transport and play for a bit
-Stop the transport
-Restart the transport

I can hear sound (without issue) when stopping/restarting the transport

Jim, thanks for trying. Were those Sonar X2 64 and Kontakt 5.03 64 (rather than the 32bit counterparts)?

Is your controller resetting to zero on playback?

I've had wiggy stuff like this from Kontakt on and off for several versions of both Sonar and Kontakt.  Many's the time Kontakt just quits sounding for no apparent reason.  But it's not repeatable and not frequent enough to drive me crazy.

Hi Kev,

Yes... straight x64

I found I had to increase the midi buffer to 500 in Sonar X2... Otherwise Sonar drops notes or won't play even a simple project.

Don't know if this is relevent...

Thanks for the response. Yes, I believe I do have that set in Sonar X2. Are you suggesting I should uncheck it? I thought X2 picked up my configuration from X1 (at least it looked like it was upon first run).

On replay just at the controller wheel in Kontact. You can see if it's zeroing. I've had to uncheck it many times even with the same sampler. No rhyme or reason to it.
