  • Is RMIX working well for you ?

I was completing a mix in X2 (from X1 project). At the end of the mix, I was just trying out RMIX inserted on the main bus. Maybe this is not the way it's intended (on a main bus) ?

RMIX causes the audio to be in jerky motion, but it's not like too low latency effect, just missing audio here and there, no clicks/pops. I increase the RMIX selection square box to maximize it, still the same. Increasing ASIO buffer also did not help.

I do not think it's my machine spec, it's pretty recent.

How is your RMIX experience so far ?

Two things happened for me with R-mix. The worst was a runaway static noise that kept getting louder and louder. I stopped the audio engine and when I restarted it the noise kept going (playback not engaged). Happened once, but it's scary loud and I'm worried about it happening again when I am not close enough to the volume knob. Second thing is R-mix stops updating its real-time color display. Closing and reopening gets it going again. By the way, it adds latency.

I was actually just playing around with it on a stereo .wav file and it seems to be working fine.  I'm not sure what practical uses I'll find for it, but it sure is a very cool plugin.

So far, my experience has been good: I put R-Mix on a relatively small project's mixdown to play around with it and had no problems (just solo'ed the track, so the 2 instances of Guitar Rig, NI Battery, and the vocal effects were still in effect).

My experience has been that it works ok on audio tracks, but doesn't work well on synth outputs.

I like Rmix as a filter but am not sure I'll use it beyond that. For many of the things I would think to use it for I can get better results using iZotope RX and combinations of mid-side and plugins. More work, but it sounds better.

Peace,

I'm playing with it now on a synth track with a Dimension Pro string ensemble (some long sustained chords) - not an audio track. It's working great and I'm having a ball with it! Can see me using this a lot to add interest to a part.

Not sure why it adds so much latency though.

I used it several time on some vinyl restoration and remastering, its an incredible plugin for isolating surface noise, adding reverb to small areas of the mix and even moving frequences around in the mix.. havin a ball with Breverb too.

I'm going to experiment with R-Mix to give a particular track a widened mix. Take one synth track. Add two sends to two busses. One bus panned hard left the other hard right. The main synth track panned to centre.

Add R-Mix to the effects bin of both busses.

In the bus panned hard left, in R-Mix position the rectangle such that it only includes the left hand side of the spectrum. And you could probably size the rectangle to eliminate some rogue stuff that is already to the far left, unless it brings something to the party.

Repeat the process for the bus panned hard right.

You could then add some subtle reverb or chorus effects to the busses and something different to the track.

Probably a load of rubbish all that, but I might give it a go later tonight and see what happens. The Sonar routing options might scupper me plans... At the end of the day, I'm trying to think of ways I can use R-Mix other than for "cleaning" up audio.

synkrotron- I think you could do the same by sending each track to a new R-Mix bus, adding R-Mix to it, selecting the center with the square and turning down the center quite a bit. Could be wrong. I'd be interested if you find different results using your method.

sharke- thanks for the update on using it on a synth FX bin. I'll have to experiment more with this.

Peace,
