  • (SOLVED!) Sonar X1 projects won't load in X2 (also, won't load Garritan Plug-in)

I've attempted to load a couple of my most recent Sonar X1 projects with the new X2 software. One of the projects just freezes ("not responding" message) and refuses to load at all. The other project will load eventually, but all of my purchased plug-ins, such as the World Instruments expansion and my Garritan Personal Orchestra plug-in, can't be found. I've added the Garritan plug-in to the VST list in the options menu, but I still can't get the one project to load at all. I'm not even sure how to tell the program to find my World Instruments expansion.

Has anyone else run into these issues? Help me :)

UPDATE:
I've solved this issue. See post at or near bottom of thread if you want to know what the problem was.

Nope, X2 copied all this information from the X1 setups for me..all my VST are right in view in x2.. but then again, i use the default locations for everything i install on my music computer..

If you mean Digital Sound Factory World Instrument expansion for Dimension Pro, and if you are getting "...sfz" file not found, that is because your new Dimension Pro installation moved its multisamples location. If so, you need to find out where it went and move the expansion files to the same spot. Along the way, you could find out if other Dim Pro multisamples were orphaned in the same way as the expansion files.

Regarding the project that won't open:  Try holding shift while opening it.  This will enable "Safe Mode" - First, say "Yes to All."  This will load the project in a basic way, ensuring no windows are automatically opened.  If that works, just resave the project and you should be good.  If that fails, try the same thing again but say "No to all."  This will load the project with no plug-ins.  If that works, the culprit is a specific plug-in used in the project.  That'll get you on the right track on where to focus your attention.

Regarding the other issue:  Are these plug-ins still working in X1?  If so, open X2 and X1 side-by-side and make sure your VST Preferences match.

Bill, I loaded the project in safe mode saying "Yes to All" and experienced the same problem. Then I tried "No to All" and it opened fine. The only plug-in that I'm using in that project is Garritan Personal Orchestra, so I know that is the culprit.

Another strange thing is that I can open a new project and Insert the Garritan Personal Orchestra Multi-VST plug-in, but all MIDI coming from it is of very poor quality and has a strange clicking/static sound.

All of the plug-ins still work fine in X1. I think I just need to know where to find my World Instruments expansion for Dimension Pro, and how to tell X2 to look for it. I've looked everywhere but can't seem to locate where my computer saved it, or where X1 is looking for it when it finds it. Any additional advice would be great! :)

Is it possible that you changed a map name or used a different map in x1 for dim Pro? My dim pro is in c:/programfiles/cakewalk. In preferences you should find where your computer saves them.

It's great that you were able to zero in on the core problem a bit.  If it's just that one project, it may make sense to just open in Safe Mode, re-insert GPO, and resave.  That might be less work than hunting down some inconsistency.

For the Dimension Pro expansion pack issue: I'm surprised it works in X1, but not X2.  I can't think of where to look without seeing your system or getting "live" feedback.  You may want to consider dropping a line to our tech support team.

Thanks!

Thanks for you help! I really appreciate your input. But I'm still running into an issue with GPO running as it should. I started in Safe Mode without the plug-in, manually reinserted GPO, but it's still giving me that strange, pulsating static sound. Why would it work fine in X1 but not X2? Both DAWs are accessing the same plug-in. Any ideas on this one?

I'll try to fix this problem and then deal with the Dimension Pro issue after. One problem at a time.
