I must admit at my early stage in the game, I still don't "get" the saturation plugs. They just sound like a degraded signal to me.

I don't much care for the Softube saturation sound myself- it just doesn't sound the least bit pleasing to my ears.
 
On the other hand, the tube effect on the EQ section of Cakewalk's VX64 vocal strip sounds great. It's nice that you can have it just on the EQ band you want.

I stand corrected. I have used it on the VX64 as well (in moderation) and agree it warms it up without breaking it up.

AAX is only for Pro Tools 10 & up. It is an eventual replacement plugin format for RTAS & TDM which are also Pro Tools only format. Besides, I'm pretty sure that this is the same free Softube saturation knob that came with X1 last year.

Indeed it is...but for Windows users.  AAX only.  Nothing to see here...move along:-)
