I thought that's what we were talking about - quick grouping. Select tracks, hold ctrl key down change parameter, output etc.... works on everything just about, including MIDI outs....

No, global control. I'm talking about changing all the outs at the same time. It works for audio.

To change the MIDI output on multiple tracks at the same time just select all tracks and hold down CTRL while changing the output port. This works on all versions since X1. I believe it even worked in 8.5 via the old quick grouping mechanism.

Any acknowledgement on the original post Noel? Thanks Alex

It doesn't work with the inspector.  Further I don't need to select all in order to do this with audio. Using ctrl  is all that is needed.

Just in, now it is working from the Inspector. This has been bugging for some time.

It must be Noel that had something to do with this because it wasn't do it before.

Thanks for responding Noel. Can you let us know if displaying Sound on Sound will be added back in as a feature?

Thanks,

Yes that's what I'm talking about. It's known as quick grouping. Hold the ctrl key down change parameter, any parameter or load a PC preset and it will make that change across all selected tracks. If there is no selection it works across all tracks as if they are selected. MIDI outs definitely all change here. In the video I linked earlier if I hadn't made a selection all the MIDI tracks in the entire project would have changed outs.

The parameter does have to be compatible with the type of track though. You can't select the out of an audio track and change a MIDI out for example.

I'm not sure why you're seeing what you're seeing but it definitely works here regardless of where you make the change. TV, CV, or Inspector. Or what selection there is, select two tracks or select none, makes no difference it works as expected. As I said earlier there was a bug in early X1 that stopped it working from the inspector but that was fixed a while back.

They changed the term for X1/X2. I don't think of this process as quick groups. I also think it shouldn't be. Simply holding the ctrl key is a very temporary thing, an instant really to manipulate all parameters of the same type. CW came up with that term for lack of a better one I think.

In Cubase its not a grouping.  Its simply global. Holding the ctrl key does the same thing in Cubase. However you are correct in your use of the term.

Now as to this problem its not working. It will work if I use the widget in the track header. But I don't want to do that. It will work in the track inspector but only after its been done in the header first. This is no help to me.

Interesting.  Works under all circumstances I can think of here...  If you try it in the "16 Channel MIDI" template we ship with, does it still not work from the inspector initially?

Also, regarding the original post:  Would it be sufficient to include the recording mode state in the "Punch Module"?  It lived there in 8.5's Large Transport.

Darn it Bill it works perfectly in the template. But I often open MIDI files directly.
