  • Recording directly to a take lane mutes all other lanes, is this right? (p.2)

Hey Danny, thanks for that but no I understand that I can do that for auto punch recording. I was refering to arming record on each take lane. If you go directly to a take lane and record on it, all other lanes are muted for that track - unless you record on the track itself then that take will create a new lane.

For example say I have a midi drum groove on T1, select a new lane (T2) and try to record midi cymbal crashes on it, T1 automatically mutes so you cant hear where to put your crashes. If I just arm record on the track and do it, no problem, the crashes will appear in a new lane. All works out ok in the end, I just dont know why you would choose to arm a lane for recording rather than just using the track. Thanks all for your comments and input.

Aww man...I thought for sure I might have helped you. LOL! Sorry brother. I'm with you now and know what you mean. Maybe one of the bakers will chime in here if they see this and give you some input. I'm hoping it's just a matter of us getting a bit more familiar with X2. Good luck to you bro.

I've always disliked that previous takes weren't automatically muted in prior versions of Sonar unless you used punch in.  To me it makes no sense that previous takes weren't automatically muted.

I could see making it an option like it is for punch in.

100% here also. Never understood this and it was so frustrating to have to mute each take!

Millzy after you explained what your trying to do, I would also do like synkrotron and have another track that I would have in my drum folder and label it as such. Then when I have it all the way I want you could combine to one trk if you wanted. I do this quiet often. But with midi info that I will later bounce to audio.

Thanks everyone for your ideas and replies.

Initially I couldnt understand why the record feature was added to each take lane without the option to hear other take lanes. I can see from some of the comments where this may be useful. Appreciate the good discussion!

Cheers all.
