Hmmmm.... I thought this thread was about female Bazz players. Wasn't there another thread about shreading.

I like Becks work as a blues guitarist, back in those long ago days. I dig his sig Strat more, though. I am not a "youngster", by the way.

Jeff Beck is one of those guys with beaucoup chops and an ear doing sounds that slip past ya if you're not paying attention. It's well worth the time to take a couple of weeks to study his style. You will learn something!
Unlike dating which yields no benefits!

LOoking at Tal helps me forget       Forget       forget       forget  dating experiences and helps me maintain my fantasy world where I Am master!

If she weren't young enough to be my granddaughter, I'd agree with you!

Hi,

ston
Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't like Jeff Beck?  Never seen what all the fuss is about.

Got to dash, I'm running a bit late for my public stoning...

I do not dislike Jeff Beck, however, with that said, he does deserve some credit for some ability and talent in the rock music story. Even if it was for his well placed solos and bits and pieces, although I do not think that he is the original and the best ever.

I always found some things he did, were also found elsewhere, and not exactly the most original person, but certainly one of the big names that helped bring a lot of different music to people, and I'm OK with that. One of the examples, was how he copied Terje Rypdal some 20 years later on a Roger Waters album ... it was nice, but a bit late if you ask me.

Some things are OK with me, like playing a solo of Turandot, but it did not even mean a whole lot to most rock fans ... but it does tell you that his inspiration for music comes from ... and I'm not surprised. And this is the part that we always tend to not find or see, I would imagine.

I would rather take a Jeff Beck, than an Eric any day of the week! At least I know I will get some serious guitar playing!

There is also the fact that perhaps for younger players listening to Beck it seems like he isn't doing anything all that special or unique.

I've heard talk of these 'youngers'.  Although I don't know of any female bass players, any talk of 'best' or 'better' or whatever wrt musicians is a right old nonsense.  If you think that music is a form of competition in any way shape or form, you just haven't got it at all.

I still don't much like Jeff Beck, although I'm sure he's a very nice guy.

I agree ston, but we're churning out hundreds  (thousands!) of new musicians, because academia is conning them into thinking that this art will lead to beaucoup bucks. The pie is smaller which is good in away, I've never had a problem sharing my toys.  But,  in the end art while subjective CAN be best, better, or good.  Unfortunately academia is really dulling their minds. One learns more working a full time job at Subway about poly ticks in (the music business) than they seem to ever do when they hit the real world.  Unfortunately street smarts can't be taught...they have to be experienced.  If you do best, better, good music than others AND you have those skills only then are you going to have a clue.  I've experienced great, selfless teachers and I've experienced narcissistic monsters that call them selves teachers.  That's where the quality finally comes from,  a teacher who is in it for the sake of the student, not only themselves.

I read a forum post once that claimed Hendrix was "overrated". The poster seemed to think his style was unoriginal, because every guitar player knows those licks. It didn't occur to him that somebody had to invent them first.
