Hey guys I really appreciate the time taken to point me in the right direction. This is my first time using such an advanced program or edrums at all, so I thank you for not just flaming me for my ignorance. Ive been at work all day so I have not been able to mess with this today. That being said is there anyway either of you could/would give me a step by step guide of what to check and select once I have inserted my midi track? I have a cord going from the laptops headphone jack to the mix in on the dm6, and then my headphones also coming off the dm6.

Or recommend a simpler program that will allow me to change the terrible sounds that accompany the dm6 module? That's really all I want to be able to do is use my drums to control better sounding drums when i play them! On my ipad I have garage band, but all three of the kits on there sound terrible. I also have fruity loops on my ipad, but it mostly just has weird techno sounding synths. Any recommendations for windows or iOS?

I agree that the DM6 sounds are fairly lame. I kind of expected that considering the price. I got it, fully intending to use it as a trigger for better soft synth sounds, such as Session Drummer or EZ Drummer.
The key element here is a good audio interface. You have made a substantial investment, but do you have another $200 to put into it? A decent interface is the make or break element, and it makes soft synths viable in a real time scenario.
By way of example, the drums in this song were played live, using the DM6 to trigger Session drummer 2 and EZ Drummer.

Well at 4 am I finally got to work!  However I have another question (shocking!) in the output selector I see hundreds of kits that seem available from lots of different company's but they don't seem to work.  Any ideas on how to get those to work?

So what did you do to get it working?
Inquiring minds want to know,and your solution may be helpful to others.
Those kits you see are drum maps. In general, they direct the MIDI data to properly trigger drum hardware with specific schemes.
For the most part, they are not relevant to this discussion.
However, there are maps listed for some soft synths that you may find useful.
You should see one for Session Drummer, and some GM sets.
If you use one of these drum maps, your drums will be labeled in the PRV, and editing is much easier.
On a note specific to the DM6 kit, I didn't really like the sticks that came with it.

They are much more comfortable to play with, and help make the rubber heads feel a bit more natural.

Clicking the full synth audio fixed it up. Basically I just went step by step with your last post with the screen shot, it was so simple I wanted to kick myself. I wish the manual was that easy to understand. 

When I was looking through those drum maps there must be a thousand different kits from all the different drum manufactures DW,Ludwig, pearl, with specific classic sets throughout history it seems. It had me really wishing I could have those sounds be triggered with my drums. 

I've been using wood tip 5-a sticks as to be a bit more quiet. I have found that I need to not let my sticks have as much rebound than I normally would in order to achieve the desired sound, for example with the hihats open I hit more on the top of the pad, and use more of the middle of the stick in a sort of pushing motion rather than I striking motion. Not sure if that makes sense or not but for me that allows me to keep a more constant flow of sound coming through, rather than say four easily pronounced hits per measure. More of a natural sound with an unnatural movement. Also it feels like the more kinetic energy I put into the drums the better it sounds, I feel like I play these more with my whole body than I do my acoustic kit.

I'm sure there are drum machines you can buy with those samples. Possibly even some soft synths.
